Does anyone know if the best way to recharge an iPod Nano thats i got on Christmas? Should i wait for it to run out of battery life then charge it? or should i charge it every time it gets at about half way? becuase ive only used it for about 5 hpours but its more than half drained already and it should have `14 hours of battery life. Is it becuase im not chaging it right? someone, please help! i dont want to get a new one only 2 days after i got it

Best time to recharge rechargable batteries is when they're fully empty. If you start charging them too soon the battery begins to think that's the new minimum so you get less battery life over time. So only recharge it when it's fully drained for best results. ;)

WRONG

Why? thats the olf NICAD batteries. which had a memory effect as you discribed

with lithium ion and newer barreries they don't suffer from that effect. They give more power and a quicker charge.

this means that you Should for the FIRST charge let it charge for 12+ hours which helps get it fully charged.

further charges it does not matter.. let the power meter on the screen tell you when its charged.

The following statement is true. The previous statement is false. 60% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time

I agree with Mementh, only old batteries had the dexribed memory effect.

A possible reason that the battery is not lasting the 14 hours that apple claims is that the 14 hours is when you just set it to play all songs and then don't touch it. Every time you change the volume, skip tracks, navigate the menus etc. it uses mroe power. Also the backlight uses a fair bit. Oh and also the little battery image isn't perfectly accurate of course.

One thing that really flattens your battery is the music quiz, as the harddrive has to be constantly moving and reading different sections.

Lithium batteries had the memory problem

NiMH batteries which is THE standard now , do not :)
