Display name change?

Featured Replies

So I've been gone from Runescape for quite a while and upon coming back today (and looking through page after page of updates) I stumbled upon the whole display name thing.

My only real question is what does it look like after I change my display name?

Say my name is "X_GENERICNAME_X" and I change it to "Doctor Pepper" From what I understand people who had "X_GENERICNAME_X" on their friend/ignore list would see X_GENERICNAME_X and then next to it would be Doctor Pepper. (If this assumption is wrong please tell me)

But what about people who add Doctor Pepper after the name change? Would they still see my name was X_GENERICNAME_X or would they only know me as Doctor Pepper?

Display name is not username and I would still log in with X_GENERICNAME_X, correct?

Sorry if this seems silly or whatever, I just am a little confused by it all.

tl;dr

If I change my name in game who (if anyone) can see my old name?

Your friends will see your new name with a little symbol next to it. When they hover over your name, they'll see a popup with your old name. You'll login with your original name.

And you should really change your name to Dragonbeard if it isn't already. That's a badass mother[bleep]in' name.

All friends before and after the name change?

And there's no way to 'hide' the old name?

Anyone who adds you to their friend/ignore lists will see your new name and old name for 30 days, then your little symbol disappears and only your new name remains.

Hi, Dragonbeard... Welcome to Tip.It Forums! :)

I should add the note that if you ignore someone, you can also see there what their previous name was for about 30 days, after which the old display name is no longer visible. It works on both sides of the fence, annoyingly enough. (Although for me, it helps with not unignoring some idiots from years in my past.) :geek:

Great! And thanks for the welcome.

One last question for clarification (sorry lol):

You say the little note lasts for 30 days, is that for everyone or just people who add me in the future?

Will III_GENERICNAME_III always get to chuckle at X_GENERICNAME_X when he looks at his friend's list or will he eventually only see Doctor Pepper?

For everyone who adds you, but only for 30 days. Once 30 days have elapsed, NO ONE will be able to see your previous name.

Alright! Thank you so much.

Looks like I'll be re-subbing, changing my name and sitting my character on the bench for a month. Was reeeaaalllllly not fond of the name I had and would rather not have it on my account for my new friends to see. And I'd rather have any old friends that still have me added (after years and years lol) to just have my new name.

You're gonna change it to Dragonbeard, right?

I could try but I'm almost certain that name is taken.

What happens if someone searches X_GENERICNAME_X on the highscores after the name change?

They won't find it. Once your name is changed, only your new name appears on the highscores. According to the highscores, there may or may not be a Dragonbeard. GOGOGOGOGOGO.

EDIT: Just checked in-game. It's taken. :(

As long as there's no way my old name will ever come back to haunt me...

What about a variant, such as "DragonsBeard"?

I was just gonna point out X_GENERICNAME_X and III_GENERICNAME_III both have over 12 characters, but then... :wall: #-o
