Dungeoneering Firemaking

To me it seems that you cant light fires at random places, like in the middle of a room. Is there a 'rule' for spots where you cant light a fire (close to doors or something?).

As far as I am aware it's just squares that are "used" by an object.

Like the squares around a mining rock or fishing spot.

DGS ppl prob can give a more definitive answer though.

We don't light fires as cooking isn't needed.

Sy's answer is sort of correct, it may also be because of graphical issues (like on the carpet at hometele), or because fires can cause glitches (you used to be able to delete the tables at home tele by making a fire on them).
