They would be a good place to start looking at, they have some of the cheapest prices ive seen on australian sites. Now for something that might suit you.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (S939) - $215.60 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_27_29&products_id=11477

Gigabyte GA-K8VT890-9 motherboard - $133.10 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_36_63&products_id=13944

WD 200Gb 7200 8Mb Cache SATA Hard Disk - $123.20 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_107_22&products_id=5885

Kingston 1Gb PC3200 DDR Ram - $144.10 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_23&products_id=16856

Gecube ATI Radeon X600XT 256Mb (PCIE) - $149.00 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_26&products_id=16360

Pioneer DVR-110 DVD Re-Writer (16x/8x Dual Layer Black) - $69.30 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_49&products_id=16766

Proview 17" LCD Monitor - $299.00 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_25&products_id=16770

Coolermaster Centurion 5 CAC-T05 Black/Silver (350W True PSU) - $126.50 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_60&products_id=9226

Total - $1259.80

Something like that would be alright for you. I put in a monitor but if your planning to reuse one you have, thats an extra $300 that can be put into other parts.

The case i listed there has a 350w psu, im unsure of the psu's brand so it may cause problems. That psu has SATA connecters so it should be able to power your hard drive. So if you dont need a monitor, you can put some money into a better psu like this.

And if you dont need that monitor, you could upgrade the graphics card because that one would be alright, but if your able to reuse the monitor, you could upgrade the graphics card.

So yes, any one disagree with what ive posted or something isnt compatible with something else? Correct me so he can make a better decision.

Generally, you need a 500W PSU, because that was, if you wish to upgrade your system, with say a better Graphics card, you'll have the required power.

If you really can, try and reuse your old screen, you'll be able to get a better graphic card and a more potent PSU then (Try a Sapphire x800 GTO 256MB card) and generally any 500W PSU will do, except for a SHAW brand, that brand is very compatible with the X### series of graphics cards.

Edit: Ive had a look through their site, and they dont have the greatest range ive ever seen and the site isnt set up that great either... But see if you like the looks of this.

Now that system might be worth looking into. Not 100% sure if its all compatible, because they gave next to no description on most products. Personally, i dont really like that site because of their lack of range and lack of descriptions, but whatever, its the site you chose so i picked parts.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Well, take a look at their site and find another socket 939 mother board. The only ones there from a decent company are asus sli boards and unless you have the money, which you dont, buying an sli board isnt worth it. So foxconn is the only other brand there with a socket 939 board with pci-e that isnt an sli board.

Like i said, they dont have a very good range so i didnt have much choice then to use that one.

Only other option you have if you want a decent board is to swap over to the asus socket 775, but thats only got an agp slot, and agp is getting out dated. The other option is for a intel board with pci-e, but if youve looked, youll notice there not the cheapest.

In the end, it all comes down to your decision.

Slightly off-topic: I have never seen such a poor range of parts before... although I failed to find even a single aussie store with a good range. I even checked the aussie pricespy and after looking through 12 shops I gave up.

On ropic: On your budget and for the system, the ASUS A8N-SLI is overkill (it is compatible, it is socket 939). The foxconn board would be the best one to consider. Foxconn is not the best of brands, but they still make usable products. The extra money which the ASUS board costs would be better spent on a better video card, I would suggest a GEFORCE 6600GT PCIe.

Yes youll have to buy windows, so that another $200-300 youll have to spend.

A SLi motherboard is a waste of money if your not intending to get two cards to run in sli, but what ever, your money.

Now what gave you that idea? If your considering to go with something from dell or harvey norman, its not the best idea. Sure most prices include a monitor, but its not the best idea buying a premade because when you build a custom, you know what parts and brands are in it.

I went through all the prebuilt computers on that site and the only ones in your price range are ones with a celeron chip, and there not that good. I still think its in your best intrest to send centre com an email and see if they ship to where you live, because their range is much, much better than this PLE computers one.

Also, if you decide to get a 6600GT, get this one, NVIDIA GEFORCE 6600GT PCIe/128MB/TV/DVI, under their graphics card area.

A few places where you can save money :)

- Purchase a Sempron instead of a Athlon 64. They are about half the price, and for what you can afford the preformance difference in games should not be noticable.

- A by-product of the sempron purchase would be the fact that you would now be purchasing a socket 754 motherboard, instead of the more pricy Socket 939. Should purchase one with a nForce4 chipset which would allow the use of PCI-Express which should work out to be slightly cheaper then AGP.

- You should still aim to purchase 2x512MB Dual Channel DDR RAM. Should target cheaper brand such as twinmos or A-data to save a few more dollars. or you could buy a single 1GB stick.

- You could save quite a bit with the PSU, depending on your choice of video card it might be possible to go generic. Although buying the cheapest decent brand would be wise, good brands include (Fortron, Enermax, Topower, Thermaltake, Antec, Zalman, Silverstone, OCZ), while ok brands include Superflower, Icute, Leadman/Powermax, raidmax.Probably best to aviod Deer, Hyena, Novia or generic PSU with cheap case.

- With regards to hard-drive, you can purchase a smaller drive and save more.

- The Monitor can be a big source of savings, You can choose to go 2nd hand CRT, probably could get a 17" for around $25, or brand new CRT which would be around half the price of a simalar LCD. (Buying a 15" LCD would not save much compared with 17" LCD)

- With regards to video cards I would provide a list of cards. In order of increaseing preformance. These cards I consider good value for money.

Radeon 9600PRO (AGP)

Radeon X1300 PRO (PCI-E)

GeForce 6600 (PCI-E,AGP)

Geforce 6600GT (PCI-E,AGP)

Radeon X800GT (PCI-E, AGP)

To check out prices I suggest pricespy

http://au.pricespy.biz/

The price you pay for buying a cheaper system is less preformance and less furture proofing.

Sorry about any spelling errors, had to rush this and did not have much time to double check.
