Such Hawks Such Hounds

[hide=Description]

"Such Hawks Such Hounds explores the music and musicians of the American hard rock underground circa 1970-2007, focusing on the psychedelic and '70s proto-metal-derived styles that have in recent years formed a rich body of unclassifiable sounds.

This is a great documentary film by John Srebalus about heavy music of USA. Music , interviews, live and some of the heavy metal, stoner, doom and drone legends from 1970 till now. More than one hour of great music, historic point of views, attitude and great people.

People Who Do Noise

[hide=Description]

A documentary about people who make noise music, their (simple) philosophy and their methods. Interesting to watch if you're under the impression they're pretentious beard-strokers sitting in their ivory towers.

[hide="Across the Universe" by Justice (Several videos, probably the funniest out of all of these, though it's in French. Not totally SFW)]

Until The Light Takes Us (NB: NSFW, painted and real violence)

[hide=Description]"Chronicles the history, ideology and aesthetic of Norwegian black metal - a musical subculture infamous as much for a series of murders and church arsons as it is for its unique musical and visual aesthetics. This is the first (and only) film to truly shed light on a movement that has heretofore been shrouded in darkness and rumor and obscured by inaccurate and shallow depictions. Featuring exclusive interviews and verité with the musicians, a wealth of rare, seldom seen footage from the "Inner Circle"s earliest days, Until the Light Takes Us explores every aspect of the controversial movement that has captured the attention of the world. This is the movie that gets inside the minds and hearts of black metal's musicians. The filmmakers moved to Norway, living and filming there for two years. The movie is not about them though - it's about the extraordinary people and events that make black metal unique."[/hide]

Watching the last one right now, then probably going to move onto:

[Edit] It's about masonic symbolism. #-o

Or Death On The Road, which is a documentary about Iron Maiden, more precisely about Dance of Death and the tour that accompanied it, I think:

[Edit] It's about the album, and it seems it's not possible to make a music documentary without someone dropping their pants.

I've only seen a few. I saw Until the Light Takes Us and while I guess it would be informative if you knew absolutely nothing about the genre, the movie is just common knowledge and was for the most part boring.

I saw I Am Trying To Break Your Heat, a documentary about Wilco. Not recommended, it's shot entirely in B/W for no reason and is pretty boring.

One movie I really want to see is Sigur Ros: Heima. Not exactly a documentary so much as a live performance though.

The most recent music documentary that I've watched was A Skin, A Night, which is about The National, one of my favorite bands who also happen to be from my hometown. I watched it soon before I saw them live for the first time and it gave me a different perspective on their careers. It really made me appreciate what a lot of smaller bands go through before they get well known.

Sure, but chances are if you knew everything that was in the movie, that's because people who had already seen it shared that same information with you, since it gets thrown around /mu/ all the time. It's a good inspiration anyway; I've been looking to incorporate blastbeats and tremolo picking.

[Edit] And now I don't want to anymore.
