Beginning music maker/mixer questions.

Hey all,

I have really been wanting to get into music editing, remixing, and creating some of my own music. I have been looking around and have looked over reviews of programs like FL studio, Reason (on the topic of reason, I have heard that reason 6 is great, unfortunately I'm not getting that for a couple of reasons, but I could get my hands on reason 5 but I have heard that people like reason 3 better than reason 5 because it is is easier to use and better), VDJ, and Logic (there are quite a few other softwares, this is just a few of the bigger ones). I'm interested in being able to remix existing songs, and creating new music (things like ronald jenkees, techno, and dubstep). I fully understand that I will not be able to pick up these programs and make masterpieces right away, that it will take lots of playing around, reading about it, and watching tutorials; although I would prefer something that wouldn't take forever to learn (but if it does, so be it). So my question is, what software (or softwares!) would y'all recommend to me for the things that I'd like to do (and what softwares do you guys use, and for what?)? Please don't worry too much about things like price, as I will most likely be downloading a cracked version off of something like piratebay, (although if there is good, free options, I wouldn't be opposed to them)

Thanks again for your time

P.S. I'm going to mention one more time that I will probably not be able to get reason 6 so even though it is probably very good. :(

Unless you are using a Mac, you won't be able to get Logic. I recommend Cubase, its not too hard to get into using (although I will admit some of the default Synths are rubbish) and you can find a wide range of free Synths and such online, I think Zebra was one, not 100% on that though. I personally use Cubase and have used Logic, and I must admit I find Cubase one hell of a lot easier.

It may be worth checking out some tutorials on YouTube to see what suits you/what you understand, it could help you get started.

FL has a really quick learning curve. Its piano roll is especially good, so if you can't play the keys or aren't comfortable with a staff, riff input is easy. Its defaults synths aren't particularly good, but that's where you come in; its time signature support is no good, but you probably won't be doing anything too complicated on that front. You'll also want to check out Ableton. Your best bet is to get all three and give each of them a shot. You can run FL as an instrument inside Ableton and Reason, so if you do go down that route I would suggest working with FL first so that you can keep working on something you started in either Ableton or Reason, since the files won't be compatible otherwise. If you go for FL and you have any questions, shoot me a PM.
