It is for the school course. I need to develop some idea with my research.

Turning real life image into a comic style stuff seems like a good idea so I did it.

It is Sarah Conor from Terminator 2. The speech box, I can't help myself and put it in there...

C/C will be cool, although I can only add stuff on it. ..hmmm.

If you think my idea has fail, please say so

My art tutor told me to make up a character so I will be doing that next.....prepare to see another scanned stuff from me. :)

Just put up the image I used.]]

Does she play tennis? no idea, but I bet she go to the gym. In the opening of the movie she can do qualify pull ups pretty fast...strong~~

the mouth and chin look weird?? maybe it is the shading..the lighter bit should be on the upper cheek. The image I used is quite bright as you can see. so there aren't much refrence on the tone.

And yeah, I tried to keep things in proportion, I just found out more misplace today, noooo(?)

thanks for the reply!

When I saw the upper reference I was thinking "someone watching wide screen in an old TV?". But apparently I was beaten to the punch :?

As for the drawing. I think it suffers greatly from a fundamental error that I also encounter every time when using a reference. You are more concerned in reproducing the actual "pixels" rather than the overall shapes, forms, expressions. Usually that leads to an image looking more robotic than terminator ever did.

Your face is a badly sown together mosaic of details. The mouth looks out of place and so does the eyes and nose. You start with details and work for a "bigger picture" but I think you should try to do it the other way around. A proof of that is for example the fact that in the original image you see a ton of emotion, but in your version you really can't say what she is feeling.

First try to get the forms right and then incorporate the details to the work.

It's not bad (im liking the shading for example). But you could do much better.

....uhh thanks, thats nice "badly sown together of mosaic ofdetails"

anyway take in your C/C for drawing potrait.

about your foundamental error...I knew it already and you sort of thought wrong. I have the image right next to the drawing and I look at it all the time, I didn't spend more than an hour to draw her. I probably need to spent 2 hours to get an accurate drawing. You don't always spot the error instantly. Sometimes I leave it to the next day so I have clear head to spot the error..But I want to finish that by Sunday so I didn't bother as long she doesn't look ugly.

I don't exactly know what you meant by detail->big picture, But If you meant start with the detail (eyes, nose etc) then to big picture (face shape) is not a good idea...I strongly disagree. I've started with detail on the face to the face all the time and I am satisfy with the results. It is not that I am bragging but almost everyone sees it are amazed. I would like you to show you them but it is in my sketch book for school. Can't rip it out...

If the face shape is wrong. How could the detail be right? This could just results in getting the length and shape wrong all the time.

You will notice the error of the line work when you are shading/coloring.

So I prefer start on a small part, get the shape of the small part right. then do the shading as you go. This way I can get the lengh and proportion right using the small detail (the tones, the length of the eye) as reference.

Anyway the main course is turning a real person into a comic style. Which i am not sure whether it worked or not... thats why I came here and ask people.
