Low-ish Lvl Solo Dungeoneering

Hi guys, long time lurker just signed up here.

Since returning to RS a while ago Dungeoneering had come out and I hadn't really paid attention to it up until recently. I'm level 39, but still have pretty much no idea whether I'm doing it right - about 35/36 of my levels were gained from Tears of Guthix/XP lamps. If it's not too much trouble for someone (or a few people?), I'd just like to be run through the best way to solo dungeoneer. I'll start of with what I know/think:

- Rush through the dungeon as fast as possible, but open as many rooms as possible.

- Don't die.

- Do small dungeons when soloing.

- Use complexity 6 and go on the highest floor you can.

I don't know when to reset or what the best, most efficient ways of getting through dungeons and maxing my exp are. From the few dungeons I've struggled through on my own (I'm at floor 12 now I think) the highest amount of exp I've gotten is something useless like 1.1k. Should I be getting more? If so, how can I get more?

Another thing is the bosses. Most of them I can handle on my own but some I have trouble with alone, such as the Hobgoblin Geomancer. Even when I range it I can NEVER hurt the damn thing. Are there ways to make bosses easier or do I just have to die 50 times to finally kill it?

Finally, is it better to solo on P2P or F2P? I remember reading somewhere that when soloing it's better to go F2P because the monsters are weaker. Am I dreaming things up or is this a good strategy?

I'm sure I have more stupid questions but at the moment I can't think of any. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks guys.

First of all. Rushing through, killing only what you need to open doors, and opening all doors you don't have to pot for is a good idea.

Start off with small dungeons, even though mediums are about the same xp, but to get the hang of it, start out with smalls.

After a while you can think about doing the five highest floors as mediums or whatever, do what you feel like.

For maximum xp, it is very important that you do all floors avaiable to you first, then reset. If you do more floors, even though every floor of a theme is checked off (ex: doing 12 frozen floors, even though there's only 11) severly cuts your xp. Reseting before everything is checked off is also terrible for your xp.

Continue to use penguins/lamps and what you can on the skill, as it is very slow in the beginning (as you probably know) In strictly efficient ways, it's not even any use to training the skill at low levels, but it is fun though, at least for me.

If you have any friends that is around your level in dungeoneering, or just are helpful, try duoing floors or something alike, as when you get higher levelled you'll have to get into team dungeoneering, preferably with an organised group/clan.

I'd do it in p2p, since you'll get a lot of key doors you can't open if you're on f2p. There's also a cap on 90(correct me someone if i'm wrong) combat where your xp is halved if you go above it, just to avoid people abusing this.

You'll have to get new binds too for every time you change between f2p and p2p, as p2p binds don't carry over to f2p, and there would be no reason to use f2p binds in p2p, as they are much weaker.

And finally about Geomancer. That boss is one of the worst bosses in the whole skill. Just make sure you don't pray against it, as that will heal him. Don't range him, his defence is high against any combat style

If you have any trouble with other bosses, I'd reccomend this guide - Or just wiki it for some basic info.

First off training Dg under level ~80 is always going to be slow and soloing is also slower than doing a c6 large (5 man complexity 6) floor. Keep using tears/lamps and opening the resource dungeons when you can get them.

Im sure someone will correct me, but doing all but the top 3 floors C6 and C1'ing the other floors is the fastest xp at lower levels. That would mean C1'ing floors 1-17(don't care about dying as the xp is insignificant) and 18-20 C6. Do this till you get to level 59 where try to do all floors >f30 as a C6.

If you are going to solo try to do med floors as they can be done relatively fast for a fair amount of xp. This said getting a group of friends together and doing larges would almost certainly be faster xp/h.

Seeing as you are 99 attack join the friends chat 'dung smith' and ask them to make you a prom 2h(make sure to bind it). To maximize the effectiveness of the 2H upgrade your ring by right clicking on the ring and clicking customize and upgrading the beserker with as many tokens as you can afford. using the smash/slash stances will utilize the increased strength levels. when you reach level 50 try to bind the best pl8 you can while looking out for a shadow silk hood. If you get a hood drop before level 50 i would bind it over a weapon.

Unless you have a hex hunter bow (a very rare drop from a level 99 slayer monster) avoid range as the DPS comparable to melee is much lower.

Training In F2p if your team averages over 100 90cb you get a -50?% level mod so P2P would be faster.

some usfull guides

http://www.xp-waste.com/bosses-t1000.html gives some good advice on all bosses from abandon floors upwards

http://www.xp-waste.com/puzzles-t806.html same but helps with puzzles that you will encounter during a floor

hope that kind of helps, hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge than me will answer the post

Ok guys, thanks for that. Just one more question, I've just reset and gone through floors 1-15 on C1 small, should I keep doing C1 small until I get to the max floor I can then go to C6, or switch to C6 now?

Switch to c6 for the last half of your floors or the last 5-10 if you have only a small number of floors. Most people going for high xp do all floors from abandoned 2 (fl 30) and up as 5:5 large, so with 5 people, 8x8 rooms, complexity 6.

When to switch depends heavily on how quickly you can do c1s, c2s, c6 smalls and c6 meds, so I can't really give a general answer, but I believe Grimy had a calculator at some point to determine the ideal breakoff.

c2s are like c1s except that they have fishing spots. You can fish them for very high equivalent xp/hr, though you'll have to drop them all. This is much better than solo c1s and a bit better than team c1s.
