Mario Lemieux retires

Featured Replies

How long do you think he will be gone for this time :wink: . Nah, i bet he's gone for good. Great player, never really liked him that much, but still had respect for his leadership. Whos the new captain of the Penguins now? Better not be Crosby, because he's way over-rated.

If he's overrated it's not his fault - the media made him out to be a god. Whlie I agree with you that he should not be a captain (he shouldn't even be assistant, but meh, it's the Penguins), but he's still a very very very good player. If you were to put him on a line with Alfreddson and Heatly, I'd bet he'd be tops in the NHL - you have to remember the kind of team he's playing with.

Or is it just NHL?

I wonder what the Penguins have been doing with their players... :?

Yeah it's sad to see another legend leave the game. But he did have a good point, as the NHL is a game for the young guns its more built for them instead of the old players.

As for the rookie ordeal, I believe Ovechkin(sp) is by far better then crosby. :wink:

Yesterday when I heard of this, I felt pretty empty. Mario was one of the 2 greats, 66 and 99. I liked Mario's style to play more, he even dropped his gloves once in a while and played a lot more aggressive.

Btw little statistic:

99 = 1,92 points per game

66 = 1,88 -||-

At his best season, he played 76 games and made 85+114=199 points. That's almost 2,62 points per game! He also made 5 "different" goals in 1 game; one on 5 vs 5, one on powerplay, one on shorthanded, one from a penalty shot and one to the empty net.

If he hadn't been injured few times, retired once and had a cancer, he could have broken 99's records.

I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.
