Is my computer okay...?

I just woke up and my antivirus software had done its usual scan and found no less than six "Trojan.Maljava" on my computer (example file name: c:\Users\Toshiba\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\23\33141117-1a51c74b>>smbkhrnvpetuqumq/kvkbwmcrgqfgnrgsgpkwj.class) and deleted them. I haven't been on any shady websites so I don't think I got it from a website. Should I log in to RuneScape or do anything else first? (I was still left logged in here via cookies or whatever).

Check your startup programs by going to Start-> type in msconfig.

Also what anti-virus are you using?

Oh, Symantec. Sorry, I thought I typed that in for some reason.

Startup programs doesn't yield anything too revealing to me...just a list of pograms that all seem familiar.

I'd recommend getting Microsoft Security Essentials, which you can download here, and Spybot which you can download here. Scan with Spybot and use MSE as your primary antivirus software from now on. Both of them together provide pretty comprehensive protection from viruses/trojans/etc. After you've scanned you should probably change any important passwords to be on the safe side. As for the specific trojan that seems to have infected your computer, I can't really comment on that, but Spybot and MSE should be able to take care of it.

That could be a problem because I have lots no confidence in Microsoft...I guess I'll just log in for now.

Now it just found another one...

I really can't recommend Microsoft Security Essentials more. It's hands down the absolute best anti-virus out there. Say what you want about Microsoft as a whole, but MSE is pretty much flawless. As for Spybot, they aren't affiliated with Microsoft so you could at least give them a try. Either way, good luck with your computer issues.

Microsoft Security Essentials is hands down the absolute best free anti-virus program for windows; heck it's even preferential to certain paid ones (eg that trash heap known as Norton).

There are a few paid ones that do about equal/marginally better, but in terms of the free market/average user by far the best.

Don't shy away from MSE just because you don't like Microsoft for other reasons. No one will deny that it is the best free anti-virus there is. If you care about your computer's security you'll install it. There's honestly no reason not to.
