Which melee stat?

I generally play once or twice a week because of other commitments, in that time I usually get a couple of Slayer tasks done. I use melee far and above the other combat styles and was wondering, as most weapons have a choice, which melee stat you think would be most useful, attack, strength or defence.

Currently all 3 are at 85 and like I said most of my combat is Slayer but I do try to get to monster events and like questing too. I realise answers will be down to personal opinion and my combat training is slow and I'd like to attempt at getting 1 to 99.

given super attacks, slayer helm, and piety/turmoil with chaotic rapier 99 str will be three best investment for kill speed and exp/hr

In terms of most efficient combat the general rule is str>att>def.

Better max damage (via str) adds the most to DPS

Better accuracy (via attack) adds some to DPS but not as much as str.

Then less damage taken (via defence) is just a small left over boon, because faster DPS and thus faster kills alongside armour stats does more for not needing food etc. than defence stat does.

Of course there are some exceptions, but it works as a general rule.
