this is my first back ground so please don't flame me, as i am a noob to this i most likely did some things wrong that i could of done better, ignore the buddy, it's just there. For the buddy all i did was make him have full black (G).

The stars are linear, You've used the airbrush to add texture to the tree. There is no shading and there's no shape to anything. Not a very good start but if you take all these points into account and try again you'll get a much nicer picture.
