Range training

Hi all, I recently got back into Runescape for the summer and created a new account. Needless to say I wanted to know what the new best way to train range would be. I'm currently level 57 range and want to get to 70 asap. Last I remember a quick way to raise range was iron knives at rock crabs or simply training on rock crabs. then again its been a few years since I've played so I'm just trying to update my knowledge on the newer quick range training spots/monsters. I started training range with a sling but latley I've been training range while doing slayer as well just to mix things up and because I'm racing my little brother to level 50 slayer.

Current stats:

57 range

31 prayer

35 defense

Also a quick note I plan on training defense to level 40 so i can wear the full d'hide set but after 40 it will be strictly range training til 70.

If you could give maybe a rough idea of the exp/hr that would be awesome, not worried about the drops much but anything that drops a lot of herbs would definitely be a plus!

Thanks,

There are two viable ways to train range:

  • Chinning
  • Cannoning slayer tasks

Chinning will be the fastest xp/hour, but it can be costly, especially at lower levels. Regardless, it's the most efficient way to gain pure range xp after 55 range. You can search these boards for other chinning topics for more information. You need 43 prayer (protect from melee) to chin effectively.

Cannoning while slaying is the most efficient. It's not terribly expensive, but it can cause slayer to be unprofitable. However, it greatly speeds up slayer xp, as well as providing a good amount of range xp. If you value slayer xp, this is by far the most efficient way to train ranging.

Because range is so weak, it's not worth going somewhere and shooting monsters up with a crossbow. The xp will be so slow that you could chin and make money in the time you save.

If your goal is to make a pure, then I'd consider waiting until we get more information about the combat overhaul. All your effort could potentially be wasted. If you're dead set on making one, at least consider raising your defense through quests. The rewards you unlock are more than worth it, and doing them now will prevent you from going over your desired defence level. If you're not making a pure, I'd recommend training your melee skills more evenly before they get into the 80s. The armor and weapons you unlock far exceed the benefit of training strength first for the small dps boost.

Ya good point, since im p2p, I was hoping to train high enough to be able to complete dragon slayer and get strength and Defense exp from the quest. It would definitely give me a good boost to start training melee as well.

But idk what level I should attempt it at

If you are on a tight budget, since I know how expensive chinning and cannoning are, you could still consider using knives at yaks/rock crabs. You can bank yak hair and yak hides for a pretty good profit iirc.

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

Ya good point, I dont exactly have a ton of money to blow. I might just do yaks or rock crabs for now, but last time I had done rock crabs or yaks they were always pretty busy. Hopefully thats changed a little

I highly recommend chinning. Grey chins until you can use reds could get you to your goal in a day.

It's not worth training range until you can afford to chin.

what do you do before you have 45 range so you can chin then?
