asx files would be the one to be most weary of as its just a simple text file that directs your computer to load media from a server. they can also be formatted to include advertisements , banners, images, icons , and watermarks under the media. But as always , only load any files from sites that are well established and trusted :)

If you have an older, unpatched version of Windows, then yes I'm pretty sure they could.

Like Cameron said, its all possible. Be wary of all unexpected attachments no matter what file type they appear to be
