Botany Bay BTS Vid.

Seeing as bots get "three warnings" I doubt we'll see any bot execution on release day. If, however, we do, then I suppose that means the whole thing is a sham, because there's no way they can go through three warnings on the first day.

Unless there are people with warnings already, such as though who've bought back their banned accounts. Or have recieved temp bans in the past.

    I agree, Kaida. 3-strikes is too much for bots. Especially since the majority are throw away goldfarming accounts. All the RWTers have to do is bot until they get 2 warnings, transfer the GP to a mule

From a customer prospective, this update shows a lack of confidence in their bot detection systems. To make a decent public image, they are diverting from the issue at hand by releasing "fun" content on dealing with bots. It is like the government providing a solution to the dependency on foreign oil, but buying extra before cutting their ties. I think once Jagex deploys their bot detection systems with Botany Bay, they will realize they have underestimated the sheer number of botters, if their detection systems are as good as they portray.

Just monitor the player count before an update, 15-60 minutes after an update, and finally three days out. You might see 120,000 players on before an update, 40,000 on 15 minutes to an hour afterwards, then three days later, you will see the 120,000 amount again. I highly doubt 2/3rds of the players decide to wait to update or have slow enough internet where it takes 3 days to download a 1.2 MB file.

Instead of "fun" updates to handle bots, I would rather "boring" see core system updates with more resources dedicated to fixing the issues at hand. They need to be more transparent about what they are doing to stop bots. I remember awhile back, Blizzard posted an article on how they do waypoint tracking, which I noticed when I did research for a CS course. Just google "server side bot detection". It is from 2009 so it is probably dated now. There are several other companies whom post their data on internal processes and they do not have as many problems as Jagex seems to have.

Regardless of whether or not Jagex believes that keeping everything a secret will improve their chances of breaking bots, they need to keep in mind the amount of people working on reverse engineering every update they do each week, versus the small team they use to try and prevent it. Jagex is doing a kick-ass job, but need to improve on their public image.

Those are my views.

@Omali

Jagex most likely started pulling resources from Stellar Dawn after they finalized the draft for EoC updates. Many people including me, spent over a year waiting, only to get our hopes and dreams crushed, when they decided to place SD on hold. Seeing how they are managing their resources, its no wonder they had to shut it down.
