November 14, 201312 yr So. I actually played PRE 07 when from what I remember, 1 defense pures NEVER had magic because magic raised your combat level. Now im seeing everyone saying to level magic first? Did something change in the combat system where magic no longer rises it?I havent played in SOOOO long and I want to make a pure on the 07 servers. I was just gonna go old school like I would have in 2005High attack high strength, 1 defense, 43 prayer, 1 magic. 1-99 ranged(doesnt really matter to me, never used it back then) As you can see, a melee pure was LITERALLY a melee pure, i loved it. When did magic come in?Can someone explain the 'new' combat system hahakeep in mind, im talking runescape 2007 servers
November 14, 201312 yr Magic raised your combat level in RSC. In OSRS, Magic is only used to calculate your combat level if it is higher than your melee levels. Think it's Magic*1.5 > Strength + Attack before your combat level is calculated using magic. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
November 14, 201312 yr Author Magic raised your combat level in RSC. In OSRS, Magic is only used to calculate your combat level if it is higher than your melee levels. Think it's Magic*1.5 > Strength + Attack before your combat level is calculated using magic.so to me that says that as long as your magic is lower than your melee levels, your combat level wont rise. So why is everyone suggesting that you build magic FIRST on pures now a days?
November 14, 201312 yr Fire Strike is pretty powerful spell unlocked at level 13 magic :P You get damage output that at this low level outshines melee/range, which makes it pretty useful for certain quests I guess. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
November 14, 201312 yr Magic is most powerful at lower levels (Iban's Blast for example). Ranged is best at middle levels (black d'hide, magic shortbow). Melee only gets strong at high levels (whip, Dharok's). Anyway the old combat level formula is: Defence + Hitpoints + 0.5 * Prayer + (the highest out of the following) 1.3 * (1.5 * magic level) 1.3 * (1.5 * ranged level) 1.3 * (attack + strength level) Then divide the lot by 4.
