August 26, 201411 yr Before we get into this I've been using this forum for 10+ years and I don't think I've ever posted on this section before, so if this for some reason is a no-no then feel free to flame me and lock this thread. :P So, in about a month or two my wife and I are hoping to be able to purchase new laptops. We're not sure on our price range yet but we're thinking $1,000 is going to be the max we can spend, perhaps a few hundred dollars more, but that's not likely. I was wondering if some tech savvy tip.iters could suggest what we should get. We're both gamers although my gaming is geared towards RS (obviously) style games (no WoW or anything of the like) and hers is more towards Facebook games, although she does play RS too on occasion. I would like for us to get a laptop that we can play RS on but not max out the memory/specs of the laptop while doing it. Memory wise, for mine at least, is going to need to be a pretty good size as I keep a lot of videos on my laptop usually for my Youtube channel. I'd like to keep my 17" monitor size that I have now but am willing to downgrade if need be, but nothing past a 15.5" I'd say if I can help it. I've done some research online trying to find some good ones but stuff has changed sooo much since I bought our laptops we use now about 4-5 years ago that my head hurts trying to process all the information about specs for newer laptops. This is our current specs for our laptops we use now. My wife's is identical to mine except her display is smaller: So after a few hours looking at various options I've found one so far that seems to be fairly good for gaming in general and is within my potential price range http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8931216&CatId=4001 Thoughts and opinions?
August 26, 201411 yr The specs of the laptop you linked to are way more than what you need for what you state you need it for. Unless you render videos for your youtube channel, and not just keep them on the hdd, you don't need the power of the i7, an i5 is more than enough. Here are a few other ideas that might interest you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231312 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152568 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317601 Only 500GB HDD and 15.6 screen but still http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=94291&vpn=K550LA-DS51-CA&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1111

I've looked through all your suggestions and I think we'll be going with the Asus (the first linked laptop). It seems to be a better deal than the one I linked to in my first post. Thanks again. :D
August 28, 201411 yr I have an ASUS that costed half of that... RS runs okay on it so... good luck :)
August 29, 201411 yr The difference between the one you linked in the first post and the Asus I posted in the first link is the graphics card. It won't be as strong as the one you chose, but for small games like RS and Facebook games, it's more than enough.
February 17, 201511 yr Author I realise this post is like 6 months old but it's still on the first page so...I just ordered the Asus laptop that Sbrideau linked in the first reply. I'm excited. :D It should be here in about a week!
February 18, 201511 yr Wow, congrats on the new computer... Treat it well and it will treat you well :)
