Skill Tracker - What do i need to know?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm new to the programming world and i'm eager to learn but i've heard that the best way to learn is by having a nice project to work on. And i've always wanted to make a Skill Tracker for my clan. Could you guys give me any advices on what i should learn before being able to start on such a project.

I'm familiar with variables, loops, if else statements etc etc. But whenever i try to make a tracker or a simple highscore i get lost because i don't know where to start.

Cheers.

The best advice I can give you is to not bite off more than you can chew. It's nice having a project, but a reasonable project is better than one that's too ambitious.

I'd say rather than trying to make a hiscore tracker, to begin with just aim to make a manual hiscore grabber.

It is much simpler, but it is also a necessary first step.

Once you have the grabber you can work on making it automatically grab data every so often.

Once that is working you can work on making it store historic data sets - the information needed for tracking.

Once that is done you can work on the front end/gui to turn that data into graphs or w/e you desire.
