February 11, 201511 yr I'm not gonna lie, I still am not used to the fact that I can't use melee on some monsters, I'm not gonna say what weapon I use while using melee as I don't want 5 posts of elitists telling me I'm awful for using the weapon I wanna use. I'll just get to the main point. I wanna be able to use melee on greater demons again, as well as red dragons and other monsters that now use magic. But apparently the only way to do it now is to use prayer. Yeah, I am willing to bring prayer potions if it helps me train the melee skill more. Would stuff like robe of Zamorak work to make sure I can have prayer on for longer? I don't think I'm missing anything since melee armor is weak against magic anyway. So that's out of the picture. I don't mind spending a bit more money for prayer potion if that will help me get closer to 99 in my melee skills. I would be close to 99 attack, defense and strength if it wasn't for that evolution of combat update. If there is no way to kill 100 greater demons and more during one trip while using melee, I'll deal with it and keep using ranged, it's not that big of a deal but it's a minor annoyance.
February 11, 201511 yr You could use hybrid armor, if damage is that much of an issue. What's the rest of your setup like? Potions, etc? I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
February 11, 201511 yr Author You could use hybrid armor, if damage is that much of an issue. What's the rest of your setup like? Potions, etc? Well I'm thinking about having 20 amount of food like lobsters or sharks, and 5 prayer potions. I can't have much more than that since I also need 2 law and 2 water runes to get outta there when I'm low on health.
February 11, 201511 yr Greater demons hard to kill? I thought those were relatively easy even before EoC. I don't think you should have any issue with massacring them even with melee - it will just be less efficient than using their proper weakness. Armor to boost prayer has very little efficacy these days. You're better off using your best armor than trying to scrounge up a +10 bonus. In fact, it will probably cost you more in food than more prayer potions would. There is a Prayer Drain Rate calculator on RS Wikia to help you see how fast they will drain. I'm not sure if it's actually up-to-date though  ...ours seems to be broken. "Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." February 11, 201511 yr I don't know, possibly some. Sacrifice and Rejuvenate are your best friends for health restoring, in addition to health-restoring auras if you have some of those. February 12, 201511 yr The problem is your weapon Blaze. I don't want to sound elitist, but the higher level your melee weapon is, the more likely it is to hit targets that resist it. I find it hard to believe that you are having any issues if you are using at least t75 items (godswords, sara sword, zammy spear). There is an alternative though. The Dark Light (a quest reward) hits insanely accurately on demons, and it has good damage against them too. I would recommend that you use it along with an off-hand dragon weapon if you don't want to use higher tier melee weapons. “I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”“Do you have any regrets?”“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”“Mmmhmm.”

Hybrid armor like Warpriest or Ghost Hunter if you have it, because if you don't want to upgrade your weapon you really can't afford an accuracy hit. If that still isn't enough, you will want to upgrade your weapon. Write that off as elitism if you want, but you're asking for advice and that would literally solve all of your problems. February 12, 201511 yr Darklight has double damage and boosted accuracy against demons. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
February 12, 201511 yr From the wiki: Against regular enemies, Darklight is a fairly weak weapon with bonuses equal to those of a Steel longsword. However, when using the sword to fight most varieties of demon, it will gain a large accuracy increase (enough to accurately hit mid-level demons resistant to melee) and deal double damage with abilities and auto-attacks. From my experience, Dark Light > Drygores against Black Demons.
February 12, 201511 yr I can also vouch for darklight, using it on abyssal demons produces 100% accuracy and higher damage output than a drygore (t90) mainhand, so I don't see why it wouldn't also be superb on greaters. I also checked your alog and see you've done the quest for it, so I think you should pick it up. Inefficiency = fun. That's objective and can't be debated. Ever. February 12, 201511 yr Author I find it hard to believe that you are having any issues if you are using at least t75 items (godswords, sara sword, zammy spear). I'm not having any issues at all. I was just unprepared when I got back to play RuneScape from a long hiatus and was new to EoC, next time I'll be more prepared. Maybe, if not I'll just get back to ranged, again not a big issue. I'm not going back to fighting greater demons for a long time, in fact I'm currently killing 15K steel dragons which if my calculations are correct will take at least a year. I will go back to this thread for archival purposes if I decide to kill greaters again. Also, I am gonna take everything you guys said into consideration. Thanks for the help.
