Help with my video card

 Wow... After reading everything, I am quite upset. I'm going to do some research and compare the prices of a new motherboard and video card vs. having Dell upgrade my computer. *sigh*

EDIT: I found a PCI card which seems to be good enough to run Oblivion, imo (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). But, here it is. You guys take a look at it and tell me what you think.

One thing... I have a Dell, and it sucks, I upgraded my HD from 30Gb to 80Gb, I took long to discover it was IDE.... ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâìÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâì

Dell werent made to be upgraded... :(

I do think the only problem with this Video card is:

Full support for DirectX 8.1 programmable pixel and vertex shaders in hardware

You need DirectX 9.0 to play oblivion, so I'm not sure if tis card supports it...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :D

Do not buy an old card like that........

It's honestly the only option I have. My budget won't allow for anything else.

EDIT: I think I've basically decided on this one.

I've been assured that it's a wise choice.

This one supports DirectX 9.0:

Microsoft̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâî DirectX 9.0 Optimizations and Support

Ensures the best performance and application compatibility for all DirectX 9 applications.

So between this new and the old one you posted, better this new! :D

thats the video card i have (almost: BFG GeForce FX 5500 256 mb RAM) in my computer already. probably not going to upgrade anything, the money situation wasnt looking as good as i thought.

You dont need upgrade, just see if your DirectX is compatible, but Knives669 can use it because its AGP, and her Motherboard only supports PCI:

BFG GeForce FX 5500 256Mb

Interface Type: Plug-in Card, AGP 2x, AGP 4x

Then find a 5500 thats PCI, because there are some.

Oki. Well, I had some luck. ^_^ I got an ATI PCI, Direct X 9 compatible 256 MB video card! ^_^ I'm going to try and install it after I get some sleep. I could really use some help though... :(

Edit: Apparantley, I have onboard graphics. I have tried installing the new graphic card and my monitor doesn't appear to respond. I guess that I'm going to have to disable an internal graphic card? I don't know... Can someone tell me how to do this? I'm going to get some sleep. Will check this topic in the morning. :)

i had onboard graphics too, i didnt have to disable it. i just had to choose the right graphics card. plug your monitor into your regular onboard video card plug. right click on the desktop, go over to settings and activate your second monitor, even if you dont have a second monitor, and then deactivate your first. unplug the monitor, plug it into your new video card. i think i did something like that :P . i also remember a small problem with a warning that pops up asking if you want to keep those settings, and at that point i could never see it. i think i hit "enter" somewhere alond there.

Ok. This is my problem. I have three PCI slots on my motherboard. Two of them are already taken up by some sort of chips. I'm not worried about them. I have an onboard graphic controller. I try to plug my new graphic card in the available slot and turn on my computer. Doesn't work. The monitor doesn't respond. When I take the the video card out, everything works just fine when I try to turn on my computer.

I've already tried uninstalling the driver to my onboard graphic card, then plugging in the new video card. No luck. Still, my monitor doesn't respond when I try to turn my computer on.

So the bottom line is, I need help installing a PCI ATI Radeon 9250 on a Dell Dimension 3000 with an Intel 82865G Onboard Graphics Controller.

well i have oblivion now, so im going to make this quick. our computers suck at running this game, read the oblivion topic for more info. but anyways, when you have your video card plugged in, which one do you plug your monitor into? have you tried both of them? i plugged my video card in, and still had the monitor through the onboard video. then i changed the settings, and then plugged my monitor into my new video card. i dont really know anything about it, i have to be able to work directly on stuff to figure it out

:D Well, I've got it up and running! ^_^ Oblivion is amazing! I'm looking to upgrade bigger in the near future, such as getting a new motherboard, but until then, low detail for me.

For the next Upgrade... a new Motherboard and a new Processor, such as Pentium D or AMD Athlon X2 :D

Great :P
