Dragon Slayer Help

Ok, so what i need are tips on how to kill the dragon. My little dilemma is that i have an archer with 45 range, 39 def, 22 att, and 4str. The problem is with using a dragonfire shield with a bow (the only thing i can do good damage with) takes up both hands and doesnt allow a dragonfire shield to be equipped, which resultes in instant death when you are attacked by the dragon. Ive pondered using a crossbow, however, they have a very bad attack. now, not taking weeks to train up attack levels (i would like to remain only an archer) any good tips on how can i defeat the dragon?

I think that you pretty well analyzed the situation.

 

 

 

You must use the Dragon fire shield against Elvarg,

 

so you are limited to using 1 handed range weapons.

 

 

 

For F2P that limits you to a weak crossbow.

 

For P2P, you have better bolts to use.

 

Ask a member if arrows or knives are 1 handed.

I think you should train your melee stats a lot more, especially strength. The crossbow is weak, and you don't want to try anything weak against a dragon. I would say train all your melee stats (attack, strength, defense, hitpoints) to about 40. Take an inventory of lobsters or swordfish, good armor (don't forget your anti-dragon shield), and you should be able to beat him.

According to Tip.it's guide, a Crossbow with normal bolts deal a bit more damage than iron arrows, but less often, as they have less accuracy (just as a pure, more strenght, less attack). If you planned on killing him with bronze, iron or steel arrows you might try it once at least.

Your ranged level is really low for someone wanting to slay that dragon. The monsters on the path to the dragon lair can be quite dangerous so I suggest you to bring a strong friend along to guard you through or you will have to make a mad dash.

 

 

 

There are places in the lair where you can hide behind and be protected from the dragon. However, from my experience, those areas are the spots where you cannot get the dragon directly (and that is why the dragon cannot get you too). There are openings where you can longrange the dragon, but once you appear near those openings, the dragon will be attracted. I suppose you can use longrange to range the dragon from those spots where you can get the dragon and after you range, you should quickly run back before getting shot by it. This can be annoying after a while so I suggest you to bring plenty of lobsters and strength potions. Have your prayer at least high enough to protect against magic and go to melee it. If you are protected from magic, then the dragon has no way to harm you with dragonbreath, thus you don't necessarily need a dragonfire shield.

 

 

 

Nevertheless, better defense and stronger power is recommended. The skill you are using to go against the dragon should at least be around 40 before you attempt, so that you won't have to blame on the dragon when you are respawned in Lumbridge.

don;t use slash on the dragon if you go melee... I did it with a scim and well it was funny all those 0's.

 

 

 

You need that shield or an anti potion (or both!) so if you are f2p and cannot use a 1h ranged, stick to melee or magic.

 

 

 

I'm a noob who did the quest on f2p btw, would have been *much* easier as a member as you can replace shield with potion for starters. I think!

i ranged the dragon from behind the wall in the corner it did a grand total of 0 damage to me.
