rares should exist?

before i start, i'm NOT ranting about rares, and i have nothing against them, in fact, i own a rare myself. but there's one thing i don't get:

how come rares protect our economy? or at least "control" it?

i'm a philosophy major myself and i fail to see the logic behind it (a really bad philosophist ;) )

Yes, I always wonder how rares "Help the economy" Can a pro-merchant tell us this.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

its almost like gasoline in the american economy, take one look at the gas prices and you can see how the ecompmy is doing.. same with rares.. o party hats are up 5mill from last week there must be more money floating around.

Um...look at this way, if there weren't rares, merchanters would spend their time stocking on materials, and making you pay more for them, but with rares they have better things to do :P

Rares are just the same as say... antiques or expensive cars in real life. If rares never existed everything else would cost more because people would spend less time trying to save up for a rare, but rather stockpile on resources, as the person who posted before me said. He is absolutely right.

if rares didnt exist alot more people wouuld just spend their money on stat raising materials. so there'd probably be a whole lot more accounts with a bunch of level 99 stats aswell (or there abouts). dont get me wrong, theres more accounts with higher skill totals than ever and theyll continue to increase, but if it wasn't for rares theyd be increasing even faster.

as a result of this items which are mainly obtained through having a high level in whatever paticular stat have become less common. having less people with the ability to produce these items means they have less competition, less competition means higher prices. even the runescape shops havnt had much of an effect on setting a benchmark price for items (you can buy rune legs off other players for 45k but the champs guild store sells them for 64k).

and it seems all this voids at rune essence. an item that everyone can get and everyone needs.

...so ive really got no idea why :?

Gas prices are not affected by how much money is floating around in the American Economy. Gas prices are mostly affected by supply and demand, as well as how much profit gas companies and OPEC want to make. But anyway, thats a bad example. I think that comparing rares to anything in the American economy doesn't work because we have a fairly set amount of money in circulation(SP?).

I don't think rares proctect the economy at all, they just are a way to show how much money there is out there and how much people are willing to spend, supply and demand.

uhm, dont even get me started on that topic :x

anyway, i cant see a real protection. the ecomomy in runescape cant be compared to economy in real life anyway... the number of gp increases steadily--> inflation, .. and so on and so on, dont feel like writing a long post today, sry :?
