Your hopes and dreams for buying a PowerBook are shutdown anyway. They're being discontinued... :P I have pity for you not being able to get a Mac though...

From what I know, Acer makes pretty good tablet PCs (http://global.acer.com or something like that). Personally, I use a 12-inch Powerbook and I wish i had bought one of the bigger ones (but I was on a $2500 SGD budget). Tablet PCs are a bit overpriced IMHO, You could just buy a touch screen and connect it to any old computer, instead of forking out the money for an expensive laptop that happens to have a touch screen built in.

bump...havnt checked this in a while...keep the replies coming

oh and i just wanted a Mac laptop...the new Macbook would do very nicely too :D

Those seem pretty ludicrous requirements...

It's one thing to say that the requirement is so stupidly high if THEY are going to be providing the equipment, but another if they expect you to get it.

Why on earth do they want a 56k internal modem?

It looks very much like they are trying to limit you to buying one through them, upon which I'd guess they'd make a tidy profit.

On dabs.com (probably the UK's largest online computer store) there were 308+ notebook PCs and only ONE of them fulfilled that requirement. I'm not even sure if that one did, as it didn't specify XP Pro.

yes!!!! that was my point too...i found 2 Tablets that met those requirements and HP and Acer made it...only 1 model per brand...it's ridiculous

i called them today to ask "Why a tablet?"...they said "well we are issuing assignments done on the tablet and if you do not have it then you will get a "0" for the assignment"

i then asked "Why can't i just use a regular laptop *cough* a real laptop like a Mac *cough*" and they said "yet again...wat i said b4"...

the guy was really arrogant too...especially when i called the tablet a piece of crap...he got offended lmao "i have had my tablet for over a year now with no problems"...yeah well i have used a tablet and they blow...and wat happens if mine breaks and needs repairing...how do i do my asignments if i have no access?

1.) The stupid pen is totally delayed...it doesn't even record all of the pen movements

2.) They are slower than regular laptops...and 10x more expensive

3.) the stupid screens break easy b/c they are designed to swivel

4.) they run windows...and windows sucks lol

anyway...yeah more replies please :)

Why not ask them how those assignments are impossible to do with a normal laptop - then if they give a good reason, ask why you can't use a normal graphics tablet (you know, like a mousemat and a pen type). That would save a large amount of money.

Also ask why they need those specifications precisely. What will be run on it that needs such specifications?

Small: Fits on desks! :P

Easy notes with those Tablets. You'll like it more than a Mac PowerBook.

no way dude...i have dealt with tablets b4 and they are a dead technology going nowhere...worst investment ever :?

that gateway is prolly the best deal that the school posted...even though gateway is horrible..

the HP's are much more expensive for the same specs...and one of the HP's they posted don't even meet the requirements

anyway...i got freshmen orientation July 27-28 and i am going to talk to someone in person before committing to anything

Wow... Those requirements are really specific... I personally am typing this on a gateway, and have had no problem with it (apart with the 'n' key, but that was my brother...) I suggest you buy the one that they offer there, it seems like a good deal for the specs. I personally can't stand tablet pcs because their handwriting recognition is horrible and I tend to put my hand on the screen when I write, ruining the screen :(.
