Distance fog

Featured Replies

Isn't it odd how the landscape just stops abruptly a few hundred yards from you, dissapearing into blackness?

In many video games, there is a "distance fog." Basically there is a layer of fog on the edge of what is visible, obscuring the line "edge of the world." This might be hard to impliment in Java, but it would make the game look better.

i dont play anymore... i think rs is ruined

Give up on doing that with java in the next 4 years for Moore's Law. I dont think runescape even has alpha blending so it is inposible. If jagex releases a download client, I think they could add it.

it does. barrows brothers, ghosts and ghost robes, as well as some magice effects like ice barrage, use that same alpha blend effect (or at least a pretty good imitation) to make a semi-transparent effect. for the fog effect it would be the same thing. the edge of the minimap would fade to white, with mybe 2-3 layers of fog gradient. it already exists in the game, its certainly not impossible

I don't think RS can do fog graphics very well... :?

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

The blackness practically is a fog of war. Well, there was a fog of war on RSC, I'm pretty sure there is on RS2.

I never noticed this, can I call short term memory loss for 200?

Well since they do have alpha blending, it is posible. But I would want it for the highdeph version only. The client would also have to request more terrain when viewing the world because if I mesured it right, your view is less than 150 feet (each tile is 3feet^2 or 1meter^2 and you can only see a 50X50 area and the player is 5-6 feet tall) I have never seen fog THAT bad.
