Junkieman
Ok ok, I know that tip.it has all the xp values for level boundaries on the site, but I can't for the life of me actually work out the formula used to calculate them(it looks like theres a formula to me anyway), and it's really bugging me. Does anyone know it? On another note, I've been having a debate with some people about whether or not the ring of wealth is actually effective, and am actually(yeah, sad and boring but I have alot of time on my hands and could do with the stats practise) considering testing it's effectiveness statistically. I'm gonna need to get people to help out though, such as a number of people wearing the ring and recording their drops from a certain monster, and a group not wearing it to contrast it to etc. Also, anybody who's good with statistics would be handy too, but I won't go into much detail here, as I think it would probably belong more in the P2P general forum. Just looking for some mod advice on where that would be best suited to going.
sheepdean
when mapped on a graph, there is a clear exponential curve. map the xp on a graph, and you will be able to decipher yourself RoW has a 20% chance of increasing your chance of a rare drop -kinda pointless really, and i believe general p2p has a thread about how ring of charos seems to give rare drops Back by popular demand! And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all. Junkieman
hmm, this means I'll have to draw a graph and work it out, not sure I even remember how to work out exponential formulae :? As for the ring of wealth, the thing is that everyone says it increases drops by 20%, but this probably derives from what jagex tells us, has anybody actually ever tested it? The people I've been debating it with, one of them got 2 d chains back to back dropped, and he wasn't wearing a wealth. Sure, he may have just been very lucky, but he actually seems to be a very lucky person, he gets lots of good drops and doesn't even wear a wealth anymore. Besdies, like I said, I could do with the stats practise.
sheepdean
thats the thing - people misunderstand it. jagex say that, 20% of the time, there will be an unspecified chance that you will get a rare drop, this chance being higher than normal - however, this doesn't mean that 20% of the time you will get a rarer drop, and the ring in itself is rather pointless IMO Back by popular demand! And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all. Goobore
There are 2 100% correct formulas for Experience as a function of Level. First, there is "Phil's" discrete version and then there is Wally's continuous version I have modified the continuous form of the skill experience formula to exactly match Phil's formula up to level 132. (Btw, level 132 is about 342 million experience for a single skill) The modified formula is: Experience = floor(A*(2^(L/7)-2^(1/7)) + B*L^5 + C*L^4 + D*L^3 + E*L^2 + F*L + G) Where L is the Level. So now it's an exponential function plus a 5th degree polynomial with A = 720.533673767946 B = 3.54298390625729e-09 C = -1.0176384179772e-06 D = 9.69859806900786e-05 E = 0.121741672963253 F = -0.2074127222877 G = 0.139103528112173 This matches 100% with the 100 known Runescape exp values, and matches Phil's values for levels 101 to 132. So, basically, the formula is an exponential 2^L/7 plus a polynomial.
pfilc23
Ok ok, I know that tip.it has all the xp values for level boundaries on the site, but I can't for the life of me actually work out the formula used to calculate them(it looks like theres a formula to me anyway), and it's really bugging me. Does anyone know it? Funny you should ask...I just figured it out yesterday. It's a factor of 1.1040875. The problem is that we don't know if they use rounding or truncating and we don't know if level 1 is exactly 83xp or if it's like 82.7. So, it can be a bit inaccurate at lower levels, but it's right on at upper levels. I worked out what level 200M XP (I assume this is the cap right now?) would be and it's level 126. Kinda interesting considering max combat lvl is also 126.
Goobore
... It's a factor of 1.1040875. Very, very close. It's actually 2^(1/7) The problem is that we don't know if they use rounding or truncating and we don't know if level 1 is exactly 83xp or if it's like 82.7. That's not really a problem at all since Round(Number) = Floor(Number + 1/2) So you can use either one in a formula. As long as your results match the displayed Runescape number, you're fine. So, it can be a bit inaccurate at lower levels, but it's right on at upper levels. That's because you need to add in the polynomial contribution. ;) Conventional least squares curve fitting will easily let you get it exactly. You just need to select the right function to fit. And that function needs to be A*2^(Level/7) + B + C*Level + D*Level^2 + ...
pfilc23
cool...yes, I see how that is more accurate. Then, the factor is more like 1.104089404 (close enough for me...LOL) See kids, math is fun!
