train everything with slayer :D
:? Why so?

Because you might as well gain slayer levels as well as range levels. Personally, I get a slayer task whenever I train *any* combat stat.

As far as your original question goes, I have no idea.. You could come up with a really rough estimate by ranging with knives for an hour or so and seeing how much exp you get compared to how many knives you use (lose).

Example:

You start with 1000 knives and after an hour you have 750 knives and have gained 4000 range experience. This means that you gain 4000/(1000-750) or 4000/250 or 16 range experience per knife. Figure out how much experience you need to get 70 range and then divide by 16. Since you can assume that you will get more experience per knife as your ranging level goes up, your estimate will be on the high side (you will need fewer knives than you calculated).

The numbers used in the above example are total bs, but hopefully you get the idea.
