Are Yews or Willows quicker money?

Featured Replies

Hey, I'm 79 Woodcutting, but I'm wondering, are Willows or Yews quicker money-makers? Yews are worth 235 ea, Willows, 30 ea, but Willows cut much faster. Soo, what one?

I would say it would depend on if you could get a couple of yews to yourself, but you usually can't, so probably willows.

There are usually hundreds (sometimes thousands) of Willow logs available

Thanks Lord_Useless, you aren't like your name :)

Thanks....

I think goobore is saying mabe you could try merchanting willows of sort, run to rimmington buy them for 12 each, tely to fally, repeat, and then sell in bulk for 30e.

Two points...

Point 1 is that merchanting Willows may not be the best way for you to

raise money since anyone looking to buy Willows can do it very cheaply

using the Rimmington and Lumbridge general stores.

Hence, you may not get many buyers at your suggested price.

I wouldn't buy at your price. I would just go to those stores and get them there.

Now, any player that is in a big rush to bank a large quantity of Willows might pay your price,

but many cost aware players might prefer getting them at less than half of your price.

If a player wanted to raise firestarting, then he could buy and burn right by the store, no banking required.

Point 2 is that if you do find enough buyers at your 30 gp price

then you may be able to make money more quickly by simply buying

them at those stores (instead of cutting them) and banking them yourself.

If you are F2P then you would have to walk, but if P2P then you have

a few other ways to reach a bank.

Hope this helps.

. . . You ARE joking, right?

I have read quite a few guides and tips on merchanting, and another four on money making. In NONE of them, did they actually CONSIDER merchanting Willows from store-to-player. Why?

-You would be an idiot to that. You can do the same thing with Eyes of Newt, but much cheaper and with a much better profit.

-They are non-stackable items, requiring the use of either high agility, law runes, or other teleportation devices.

-30gp IS the standard price for willows. Step into draynor bank.

-NO ONE, EVER, EVER buys them at the store with all the walking. I could make more money in the time I walked to the store, bought the willows and ran back then this.

And Willows are the best way to raise Fletching to 70, so yes, members WILL pay that much.

can you cut over 7 willws in the time it takes to cut one yew? if yes, then willows, if no, then yews

Back by popular demand!

And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all.

. . . You ARE joking, right?

Sigh, looks like you're not serious about having an intelligent discussion...

From someone that considers a different approach to something.

Careful, with an attitude like that the mods may lock this thread.

What's the alternate method of getting eyes of Newt in large quantities?

The discussion here basically "chop or buy?"

There are a few new things that are available you know.

--30gp IS the standard price for willows. Step into draynor bank.

Which is exactly why buying them at a price of only 12 gp will let you make a big profit.

-NO ONE, EVER, EVER buys them at the store with all the walking.

Well, how about this method:

Get killed and spawn in Lumby. Buy at nearby general store.

Tele to city of your choice. Do your banking. Repeat.

I could make more money in the time I walked to

the store, bought the willows and ran back then this.

Or, how about using the Culinaromancer's Chest in the Lumby basement as your bank?

Also, using your servant in your house in Rimmington could help with bank runs as well.

And Willows are the best way to raise Fletching to 70, so yes, members WILL pay that much.

Yes, which is why buying at 12 gp makes a nice profit.

I wouldn't pay that much, but as long as someone else will, you are in good shape.

The issue here is really is it faster to chop and bank or buy and bank.

Jagex has recently released a new skill, new bank location, new servants, and new teleport options.

The merchanting guides don't take these new things into account.

It's up to us players to figure out how to use them to our advantage.

I think that a timing test for the death-respawn method and

the basement-bank method would be a very useful thing to do...

A silly aproach. It's the same way as saying "You know, you could make money by buying something cheap, selling it high, EVEN though, the profit would be incredibly small for time spent." That's not new.

Well, how about this method:

Get killed and spawn in Lumby. Buy at nearby general store.

Tele to city of your choice. Do your banking. Repeat.

Law=400gp ea

Water rune=20gp

Buying 25 Willows=300gp

720gp

Profit made for selling them 30 ea=750

Subtract supplies=30gp profit

Or, how about using the Culinaromancer's Chest in the Lumby basement as your bank?

I see how useful that is to FREE TO PLAY people.

(Sheepdean, you answered my Q, thanks)

A silly aproach. It's the same way as saying

"You know, you could make money by buying something cheap, selling it high,

EVEN though, the profit would be incredibly small for time spent."

That's not new.

No, it's not the same at all.

You were writing about the fact that none of the Guides mention using

store bought logs for profit and then concluded that since they didn't,

it must be a bad idea.

My point is that there are sometimes better ways to do things than what everyone else is doing.

You just sometimes have to fully consider how to exploit the situation.

Just because you can't see a way to make it work doesn't mean

that someone else won't figure out a way to make it work.

For example, how many players regularly use Death as a free teleport to lumby?

Jagex makes changes to the game and the guides don't always reflect these new options.

Hence, new approaches to old ideas are needed to fully exploit new game features.

Also, many guides are incomplete in many ways.

For example, how many Ranging guides talk about Curse spell pulling?

Or about wearing full Bronze when leveling magic?

Or about how to estimate arrow usage when picking up your arrows?

Sometimes a player has to stop reading guides and start thinking about how to best play the game.

...Law=400gp ea

Water rune=20gp

Buying 25 Willows=300gp

720gp

Profit made for selling them 30 ea=750

Subtract supplies=30gp profit

Glory ammy teleport doesn't need any of that.

Hence your profit per trip is about 486 gp

I'm F2P

So, buying from a store might work best for P2P players.

F2P players would have to time the "respawn in lumby, buy in store, run to

draynor bank, die, then repeat" method and then compare it to their woodcutting time.

For lower woodcutting level F2P players, the store method might still be faster.

...I see how useful that is to FREE TO PLAY people.

A F2P player with level 1 woodcutting skill could start making money immediately using the store method.

He wouldn't even need to get level 30 woodcutting or buy a rune axe.

He could start making money right away...

In case you didn't know, the "Rare Tree" symbol on the official

Jagex world map shows the locations of all 23 F2P yew trees.
