Golden_Glory
This is a quote from my post on the runescape.com forum. If you want to find that thread the name is "Player Market Center" under suggestions by adam g0d, or the quick find is 24-25-936-26882793.... I'm sure many others have had this idea before, so if it's already on the forums sorry for bringing it up again. Every player at some point has been to one of the major trading worlds (such as world one and two), and knows how long it takes to find the right item. What if a system could be created where you could be teleported to a far away land where all you could see was shops? Player shops that is. For my idea of player shops, I figured that each player could purchase a set piece of land in this "far away place". Then, integrate shops with the construction skill. For example, level 5 construction would build you a simple stall, possibly holding space to sell 5 types of items. Next at level 15 construction, a "Super stall", at which you could sell 15 items, and so on. And, if your construction level is high enough, you could eventually build a small hut type of shop, where 28 types of items could be sold. As for the selling of items, you would add the item to your shop, and input the set price you want to sell at. Maybe you can have a haggle option, so a player can contact you immediately if they want to work on a deal. You would also need to hire a helper (similar to house servants) that other players could access the shop inventory. Lastly, you would need a search tool, so that when you typed in the proper name of an item, it would locate what stall/store(s) had the item, and possibly an arrow on the mini-map showing the direction to that shop. Well that's about it. Please leave any comments, and/or talk to me in game! Thanks for taking the time to read my market center idea!! If you support, please post on the runescape forums. If you wish not to, then please post here and i'll add your name to the list. I'm also open to suggestions, so feel free to tell me what you think :). Thanks in advance for your input! :)
arizark
it would be very hard to do because there probably wouldnt be enough space for everyone to sell their wares
Golden_Glory
I did think of that. My best idea was to either have a dedicated world for it, or make each world load the shop profiles of a master server. Indeed it would be hard, but it would be soo much more organized, and players would waste much less time on market worlds. It indeed would be a large area of shops. But I'm sure jagex could figure out a way to organize it so you can reach the shop you want relatively fast. (i'm still currently working on this concept)
wild_goat_14
wrong forum.......... I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete. So, what is 1.111... equal to?10/9. Please don't continue.
Licky Kat
wild_goat_14 - why not try helping the player by at least telling them the correct forum, and maybe also commenting on the post itself, rather than spamming. Posting "wrong forum...." and nothing else is not only spam, but it is not helpful either. By the way, I moved this post into the suggestions forum. Xaga
Ah, suggested many times by many differen people. This would be a great addition to runescape is there was an easy way to program it. Unfortunately, this is pure chaos. Normally, in many other MMORPGs, this is accomplished by groups of people creating an automated bot that can take responses and sell items to other through normal trades. Being as bots are illegal in runescape, this obviously can't happen. Personally, within the rules and bounds of this game, I still see the forums as the best way to sell items. Golden_Glory
I figure its no different than the friends list. You have a server that each players plot of land for a shop is stored, and as it's needed it is taken from that server. It's not prolly that easy when you get down the the programming, but i still think its very possible.

This idea entails a new graphical environment, a separate code for what each stall looks like. Coding for what each stall will sell. Storage of information for the price of what is in the stall, a stock that may be connected to the bank. And setting up the stall would make an area where only 1 person can own it, there are probably about 1,000,000 active players. Though this woudl obviously be p2p only, there are a good 400,000 of them, that many people competing for a limited land on certain crowded servers? Golden_Glory
i was thinking more of having unlimited land, and somehow you'd be able to instantly travel to the shops that had the items you wanted. As for the loading, it wouldn't be much different than homes, except for the fact that multiple ones would be stringed together on the map. In my mind, i was only thinking of the stores being a quarter-to half the size of a parlour in p2p homes
Hugh_Mannity
The size of the shop doesn't matter -- that's just pixels. What makes this idea, while a very good idea in theory, almost impossible to program is the number of variables that have to be considered. Would a shop be open all the time? Or just when the player who owned it was online and in the shop? If it's open at all hours how would you secure it against hackers and so on? In theory it could be done like the existiing shops in RS, but then you'd be stuck with a fixed price for an item (presumably set by the shop owner) which would rule out mutual trades and bargaining over price. Believe it or not, the current chaotic system works pretty well most of the time and doesn't require any programming or maintenance.
