Problems connecting new computer to the net

I'm having problem connecting my new computer to the internet through our router. The only software so far that can make a connection is Internet Explorer. mIrc, Firefox and other programs can't connect.

 

 

 

I have a no-name brand network card and router, and at the moment I have no firewall enabled. When I try to ping any IP other than 127.0.0.1 through the command prompt I get no response.

Well, first thing I would do is make sure that nothing is blocking the use of mIrc or Firefox. Second thing is get a name brand router and net card. Post if those things don't work.

I already said that I disabled all firewall software, the network card came from my old computer and the router also connects the rest of my family's computer. Both were working fine this afternoon, so I'm fairly sure that's not the problem...

Well, what model/make was the old computer, and what is the model/make of the new computer?

I ended up fixing the problem by going back further in time with system restore than I initially did (I had about 20 system restore points from installing all sorts of new apps :P)
