Rule 14: Gold-digging

Featured Replies

Jagex currently have 13 major rules, and perhaps it's time that another was in order. I suggest: Rule 14 - Gold-digging!

How many times do you pass a person on a road or in a bank saying 'looking for bf/gf' or 'will u b my bf/gf?' This in itself is innocent enough, but - inevitably - a couple of days later the requests start coming in.

"I'm really weak can you cook me some sharks?" Doesn't sound too bad does it? I mean, there's plenty of fish in the sea.

Then...

"Can i have some blood runes? I've just run out. I only need a couple of hundred." Only a couple of hundred? Well...okay then...

Later...

"Help! I died in the wildy and lost my d skirt. Can you buy me another?"

Did they even have a d skirt?

Wait what am I getting out of this?

"I died again. This lvl 50 PK'ed me. He's still there, can u kill him please?"

Lvl 50 of the wildy...

"That's him there!"

What!? That level 126?

*sounds of you being owned and losing your items*

Some time later...

(PMing)

I think u tricked me into going into the wildy!

"Hah!"

*you sense that you have been added to an ignore list*

Basically, a lot of these people are scammers who prey on people that want a close friend or a relationship. It would be wrong of me to generalise all of these people, I am sure some are honest and true, but - unfortunately - most are not. I think we should have a new rule to use to report people who scam in this way.

What do the rest of u think?

If it moves... own it!

Hey if that's really happening, fight back with a troop of 5 people :D

uwahaha~

In fact, I'm sure you can post something on tip-it to get attention.

teach the twerp a lesson or two...

The depths people will go to scam others astounds me. I don't call this gold-digging, I call this scamming. Clear and simple.

Now here's an idea. Someone wants offers to be your bf/gf, try doing the "if you love me, you'll..." trick on them. But make it stuff that will actually benefit them in the game. "If you love me, you'll go and mine 400 coal for me." If they go and mine it, then you say "If you'll love me, you'll mine 800 iron for me." The go and do that... Then you say "If you love me, you'll smelt all that steel for me"... And so on.

Don't know if this will work. I have been the "victim" of the perpetual "please help me, you're a nice guy" beggar. Ignore lists are great, you know?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but, I am not sure you realize tht what you heard is not what I meant.

Now I tend to ignore all that crap.

Just let the little kids play thier 'love' game, they don't know the true meaning of love.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

Kl, gd suggestions. I do think Jagex need to revise some rules, and add or take away some. Mebe some 4 time wasting wouldn't go amiss lol? Lyk wen u turn up 4 trades and they nvr show. Possibly u could get sub-sections inside the scamming rule. :-k

But this gf/bf thing is happening more and more, Jagex need to do something.

Keep posting

Kl. It's nice to know that at least some people are thinking the same way as me. I'd like to hear from someone who does go around asking, it would b interesting to hear both sides of the argument.

You really think those folks participate in the forums? They are too lazy to go and earn their stuff on their own, I doubt they'd muster the gumption to post anything here, let alone bother to read it.

We all agree that these people are annoying, but we disagree on what should be done about it. My stance here is the rules as written are sufficient. Begging and seeking friends isn't illegal. Scamming is. Leave it at that.

Gd point, well made. A rule would probably b too far, these people aren't worth the time it would take to make 1. I still quite like the idea of having sub-sections in the scamming rule, but if u have any common sense it'll b best just to ignore them.

If it moves... own it!
