I've been out of the game for a while. The last time I played, everyone either used Battle Axes or 2-Handed Swords. Now, I see most people running around with Scimmys. Why is this? Is anyone able to give me a breakdown of what the different types of weapons are good for? Thanks.

Well, I don't know a whole lot about combat, but my understanding is that the scimitar gives you much more speed than the battle ax for a comparitively small decrease in strength. In this way it is kind of an optimization of speed of attack and strength.

basically it's strength vs speed.

 

 

 

B-axes and 2 handers are slow (2hs are VERY slow) but hit pretty high,

 

daggers, longs, and scimmys hit lower but are faster. Daggers also have the option of being poisoned.

 

 

 

Most people seem to prefer speed. the d-scimmy is also prefered by pkers because the special drains prayer (i think)

Scimmy - Used for speed and accuracy, this weapon is only slightly weaker than the longsword or battle axe. But many players think that there is no difference in it's strength bonuses. A remarkable thing about this weapon is that it's as fast as a dagger.

 

 

 

Longsword - In between the speed of a b axe and a scimmy. This is slightly weaker than a b axe yet slightly stronger than a scimmy. Its not a very popular weapon not unless it is Dragon.

 

 

 

Dagger - Used for versatility, it still packs a punch and they can be poisoned so it is a preferred weapon for P2P Pkers.

 

 

 

Mace - Not really anything to say about this weapon except that it is cheaper than most weapons and offers a small prayer bonus.

 

 

 

Rune 2H - The most hard-hitting weapon in the game until 70 attack. It is accurate and strong. Drawbacks are that it is two-handed and that it is extremely slow.

 

 

 

B Axe - Used for smashing things with power lol other than that the D B Axe's special is nice. :twisted:

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I'll pick up a Scimitar and see what kind of a difference there is.

Baxe is also great for killing things weak to crush... like metal dragons :

scimmies 4eva! so long sloooooooooooooow b-axe, the f2p world is waking up to the fact that scimmies are waaay faster to train with and by the end of a fight, the scimmy is way better cause it only hits 2 or so less than a b axe but can get more hits in! but i hear the D B-Axe special is nice :twisted:

Baxes and 2handers were also MUCH more powerful for pking in RSC due to the lack of weapon speed differences. Once speed was added the best weapon is the strongest version of the fastest weapon. Daggers, claws, shorts, and scimmies all have the fastest (same) speed. The scimitar has the best stats out of those.

 

 

 

Another reason that scimmies are more popular is because of the way melee pures work. Lots of pkers get 40 attack and max out strength as high as they can. This means that they are not extremely likely to land a blow but when they do, WATCH OUT. Since the accuracy improvement of 2handers/baxes/longs over scimitars isn't incredible, it becomes negligable against an opponent in rune. Therefore the faster they attack, the more chances they have to make their huge strength go BOOM. With a higher attack you can afford a slower weapon to make up for the lack of boom.
