  1. Can anyone confirm for me that the spell "Iban Blast" is no longer a part of the game? I was away from the game for a while, so I don't know everything that happened with the Evolution of Combat. If this is true, I think the magic guide, item database, and magic skill calculator should probably be changed to reflect that fact. Unless those are intended to accommodate RSC as well?
  2. When I had stats about what you have, as far as combat, I think I did a lot of training in the Stronghold of Security. I don't know if that's still cool but when I was playing two years ago it was. There's pretty good spots to range there too. I leveled up a lot on minotaurs (I think) because they drop tons of iron arrows. I actually gained arrows most of the time shooting there. I made money by mining, but that's kind of uncommon apparently. Something else to consider: Maybe you are having a lot of fun playing and just don't really know what the next step is. You did all the easy quests (or maybe all the quests) and you just need to figure out how to train now that you are getting higher stats. On the other hand, maybe you are trying to force yourself to play because you sort of think Runescape should be fun but you're not actually having any fun. Don't force yourself to play. Do something else for a while. You'll think of something that you want to pursue in-game sooner or later. /ramblings-of-a-crazy-old-miner
  3. I have personally never used one before, but I've been wanting to get one recently...if any of them are legal. If there aren't any programs that are legal, is there some method that works better that I should know about?
  4. I guess I might be able to help with the pick up party... Cool idea, way to go out in style. Any particular reason you are quitting?
  5. Wow, amazing day today. I started off a good bit short of 77 mining and ended the day getting both 77 and 78 for a total xp today of nearly 180k!!! That is huge! I also seem to have found peace within myself when I mine--that means that I can now almost totally shut off my brain when I mine, maybe I can sleep too... Anyway, a very sucessful day, and I only have one class tomorrow, so things are looking good!! This success is due in large part to a great runner I had tonight. I would have stayed at 110k had he not shown up and I hope to win him over to the forums here.
  6. Well, I ended up passing my goal for today to make the numbers a little easier to remeber. I got maybe 114k xp today to get a nice round 1,450,000 mining xp. I plan to get 100k minimum xp per day, and more likely I'll go for 110k xp per day. I am currently aiming for 85 mining to land on St. Patrick's Day, but sometime around Easter would be good too. Mark you calenders!!!
  7. Well, I tried mining granite for a while, but didn't find it that much better than iron. I did, however, mine in world 6. It's artful folks. I can drop three ore before the first respawns about 50% of the time in a full world. This makes me happy, the next step is to be able to do it without paying more than 20% attention. Anyways, i got my 100k xp for the day early, so now I can maybe arrange something for as far as dueling rings for banking a little of this stuff. I don't know how well that will work as I'm still too much of a newb to be able to tele to Ardougne :-k
  8. Thank you all for your support, whenever I think about quitting, I just remember all the folks back home at tip it. I managed my first really planned micro goal to get 100k exp today achieving 76 mining, one level in one day, not too shabby! I like this pace of ~100k exp per day, and I shall try to keep it up, maybe if I keep rocking hard, I will finish on St. Patty's day. That would be really cool. Thank you thekiller308 for your granite mining advice, I will definitely give that a test run tonight or early tomorrow. Also thanks for the competition, extra motivation is always appreciated  (I bet you win too : )
  9. Hey, much luck with your goals, my brother/sister (?) miner. Check out my blog too, I'm going for 85 right now. 99 I'm not so sure about, your attitude is encouraging though. Do you get much competition in world 2?
  10. I would get def high enough to have a combat level 4 or 5. Also a big fan of the liederhosen hat. Monk robes look cool in my opinion, as do staffs, i go for kind of the weather beaten old guy look though...
  11. Picture this: You log on after getting back from school/work/sleep to find that you have been stat wiped back to about a skill total of ~1000. The best armor you have is full rune and you can only use a dragon long/ dds, which you still have somehow; your combat level is 76. You don't have a whole lot of cash, possibly a respectable chunk of ore in the bank. What do you do? (remember, this is totally hypothetical...)
  12. Dang, this is a pretty sweet blog. I am very tempted to go out and try it. I have had abominable luck with clue scrolls in the past, but if I can just get that HAM cloak bought, Ill be in business. I'm tempted, but right now I'm walking the straight and narrow to 85 mining. I know what the first thing I'll do when I get 85 is though--mine runite for a month. The second thing I'll do, however, is get me a clue [scroll].
  13. Well, to finish off a very productive day (I had to write an essay today ) I got myself within 100k of level 76, which I hope to obtain tomorrow with a little luck. Unfortunately, towards the end I was getting a lot of lag, possibly from the LAN here at school. You wouldn't think that lag would make a lot of difference to a power-miner--It does  !!! Anyhow, if I can KO my homework tomorrow pretty quickly, I should be able to get my 76 mining pretty easily  So long for today, and thanks for the encouragement, it really does mean a lot to me.
  14. Hey, thanks for helping! I got 75 Mining!!! Coal is slightly easier...slightly.
  15. I would like a runner for iron this afternoon/tonight. PM me in game if you are interested, we can figure out a world. I will be playing tonight at 7 CST.
  16. This is to be my blog about mining and RuneScape vs. real life. (I would like for you to comment on content, blog format, math, life, forging, etc. I will not come after you if you don't) *Backlog *Short Term Goals *Long Term Goals *Progress *PICTURES!!! *If you want to Help Backlog (i.e you can skip this if you want to): I started playing RuneScape about a year ago at this time--February 2006. I played for a week or two then quit until the following summer. My cousin asked out of the blue if I had heard of RuneScape, I picked it up again and the rest is history...sort of. I played all summer long, a little under three months. Although I did lots of things, the two skills that captivated me from the beginning were mining and smithing. Maybe because I have always been fascinated with blacksmithing (I own an anvil and forge in real life). Then I went to college. I didn't touch it once until a little after the beginning of January this year. Up until this point I had been F2P all the way, though I had given serious consideration to paying for a member's account. Now I was playing again and looking even more longingly at the world of P2P. Just so you youngsters out there know, a members subscription is nothing compared to the price of college text books -.- . Anyway, about a month after I started again this year, I finally joined the ranks of other P2P'ers and explored new wonders from Arzinia to Zanaris. Just for the record, I when I left F2P, I had level 71 mining and 55 or so smithing, and these were largely done last summer on dial-up . Now on to the part you actually care about... Short-Term Goals: Mining: 85 (so I can mine iron really, really fast) Real Life: To start spending more time in it. This is pretty difficult to quantize, and hopefully not too off topic, but it's tied up in the inspiration for this whole dash for 85 mining thing. Since purchasing a member's account, I have been spending more time in RuneScape and less in my actual life as an under graduate math major. Admittedly, my life was not always a thrill-a-minute before I picked up RuneScape again. However, I am feeling now that I've gone too far in this direction, which is why I have decided to prioritize what I do in the game. For me right now, this means playing less but mining more and approaching my goal of 85 mining while still maintaining my real life. Long-Term/Later Goals: NOTE: These are by no means definite, so don't be alarmed if they change Smithing: Level 70, and later 85 Attack: Level 70--Whips seem to be fashionable and cheap  Mining: Level 99, though maybe I'll just cop out at 86 which they say is leagues ahead of 85 as far as bragging rights. Runecrafting: Level 44 Here's what I've got so far: Pretty OK, but you can see what skills I do and do not care about. --Progress-- I get all this fancy mining experience made by mining in: *The Chasm Mine; this is home base, where I get at least half of my exp *East Ardougne; this is another nice spot, no adamant to mine, but better for running I think *Port Khazard (aka Yanille); this is where I mine when I mine for keepsies, don't use it much though *Arzinian Mines; sometimes it's nice to take a break from iron, do the 'Between a rock...' quest if you haven't *Shilo Gem Mine; another good place to take a break from iron *Mining Guild; kind of ok exp, when I use it I go for the superheat-the-mithril strategy Listening to the soundtrack from "O Brother, Where Art Thou" is a great way to while away the hours mining. 23.2.2007 I started the day at level 73 mining. I mined a bit in all of my 4 major mining spots. Got Level 74 Mining! 24.2.2007 I mined a lot in Al-kharid today. Ended up the day trying to find some runners to run for me at the Ardougne mine. I went to this sweet math problem solving competition this morning and felt like I did pretty well (+1 for short-term goal 2). Got Level 74&1/2 Mining 25.2.2007 I made this blog in the wee hours of the morning. Mined a lot in the East Ardougne mine; it is quickly becoming my favorite. Got level 75 mining!!! [see pic] Got to within 100k exp of 76 mining. 26.2.2007 I did all of my mining today in the East Ardougne mine, despite a total lack of any runner types whatsoever. I did manage to get my 100k exp for 76 mining! I'm also starting to save stuff I get from random events while mining (which is 100% of my random events  ) 27.2.2007 Again did all my mining in the East Ardougne mine, that is definately my new home. Had great xp using world 6. Was happy to have a runner near the end of the day and I have hopes that I will have one or two tomorrow sometime. 28.2.2007 Wow, it seems like I always feel good at the end of the day, but today went especially well. I went way over my reccomended xp of 100k per day for 180k whopping xp in one day, one day mining iron folks. Got 77 and 78 today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PICTURES!!! This is what I looked like when I reached the 1000 skill total mark this Valentine's Day (2007). W00t! Got 75 mining, first even 5 made since F2P last summer! (Click the level box to see a complete screenshot of that level) If you want to help... I would really, really like to have some runners. -I will give you everything I have in my inventory, gems and all -I would mine for you at the East Ardougne mine -I am on usually evenings from supperish to late (CST) and sometimes afternoons -Please pm me before you make the trek to Ardougne to make sure I am not already trying to mine for too many people When I make the final strike of the pick for 85 mining, COME TO THE PARTY!!! Though I can't guarantee that I'll be able to provide much of a drop party. Coming soon... I'd like to get some pictures up when I make major mining levels and of some of my experience with forging steel in real life. Stay tuned...
  17. Ahh yes, i still remember fondly those last three levels to 70 mining. I did it in three nights. 3 nights powermining at the al kahrid mine. It was very boring and lonely, and probably not that good for my hand, but it felt great to be level 70 mining. Good luck in your pursuit. PS: Pretty much right after that, I stopped playing runescape for a while. Now I've started again and am on the long pull to 85 mining. And of course I'm starting to envy those few, sick, sick people who have managed to achieve 99 smithing.
  18. Thank you for that. I was feeling pretty down about the whole levels thing last night, and this gave me hope for levels being fun again. Great article, very inspiring to me.
  19. Here were some of my first quests upon becoming a member: -Fishing Contest -Priest in Peril -Ghosts Ahoy -Dwarf Cannon -Giant Dwarf -Between a Rock... -Lost City -Fairy Tale I -Fairy Tale II (all i did was start this one, so i could use the fairy rings  ) -Druidic Ritual -Fremennik Trials ( :x ) Its also not a bad idea to start the slayer skill so you can have to opportunity to get the double slayer+combat xp when you kill your slayer assigned monsters. It seems to me that having prayer level 43 plus becomes even more important in members, I got mine to 43 using the ecktofuntus, but that was one long lonely night...
  20. Does wearing partial HAM clothing decrease chances of failing?
  21. I am a newborn (week old) member and I am struggling to get my first clue scroll. I'm pretty sure I've killed the entire human population of Runescape and pickpocketed HAM members until I was almost dead. My combat is 72 and my thieving is 27, what is the best way to get my first clue scroll? I would be happy even with a lvl 1 scroll. Does a ring of wealth have any effect on this?
