EDIT: according to KB you do need a def lvl 40 wear the top.

I believe you may be able to wear it, the dragon slayer quest is mostly just to earn the right to wear a rune platebody and buy it, as well as buying green dragonhide bodies.

 

 

 

So, you may be able to wear them?

I think you need to do Dragon Slayer to wear dhide bodies. I DO know you need to do it for the Green Dhide body, but for the other dhide bodies, I"m guessing. Because, why would you be able to wear blue or black dhide body if you can't wear Green? That's my thinking.
