does anyone know if having to block while ranging affects attack speed?

no it doesnt, sometime you will just fire instead of blocking if you watch.

same speed i believe. sometimes i give up standing in safe spots while i range something that can't compete my def level - e.g. 70 def vs moss giants. :)
