Smithing + cannonballs question.

Intriguing

Recommended Posts

I have a question to do with smithing. So anyway, after I have accomplished some combat goals, I'm planning on getting 85 smithing. Initially I was thinking gold bars, as I'd 'only' need to do about 50k of them.. Then I realised the money loss involved, so that was out of the question. So, then I started thinking of cannonballs. I'll need to smelt 65k steel bars, then turn them into cannonballs [i think]. I looked up official forums to find out prices of things. Materials for steel bars will cost around about 500 each, and I can sell cannonballs around about 200 each.. 300 profit on then. Now, to my questions.

1. Am I going to receive 65k cannonballs, or 260k?

Either way, I'm gonna receive a hell of a lot of money [for me]. If my calculations are correct, and the prices on items I checked up is accurate, I'm making either 19.5m or 78m.. [Please correct me if I'm wrong.]

2. When making cannonballs, do you have to use the steel bar on the furnace for each lot of 4 [similar to molten glass]? If so, it will obviously make it much more boring. But if it is like this, is the speed at which you can do it similar to molten glass [whenever you click, is does it striaght away], or same speed of normal smelting?

Anyway, is this a good way to get 85 smithing?

Cool.

Hi. ;)

You will make 260k cannon balls, and yes you will make a lot of money!

When all the bars are made, you need to use one of the bars with the furnce. Then select 'Use all bars' then you will begin making cannon balls.

However, it may take a while becusae you have to put it in, let it melt, take it out, and then cool. And takes longer gold bars.

Personally, I would smith Iron Knives. You can buy ore for 100 each, and then sell the bars for 200 each. Or the knives for the same profit. Either way you're getting experience. ;)

Anyway, good luck & Have a great day.

you'll be spending 200 on coal and 100 on iron i would guess, if you blast furnace(60+ smithing is free, and you have 65) you'll use half as much coal as usual, so spending 300gp for each steel bar

but, all smithing is boring, so just switch between the ways

as said prior, iron knives are moderate, and for gold bars, people rarely buy them in bulk of 1k or so, i would suggest iron knives or cballs, although cballs may go down in price

Thank you very much! Anyway, I'm ok with it taking a while to actually make the cannonballs, the major thing is, I don't like having to pay attention. [That's why I don't like firemaking, thieving, etc.] Anyway, thank you very much for the answers. Much appreciated. :)

Cool.

well if you dont wanna pay attention, keep volume for effects on 1 or 2, depending on what music you listen to, but gold bars and iron knives would the ones you should do if you dont want to save cash on blast furnace
