It's all pretty much random from what I've seen.

 

 

 

Some people use thousands of tokens without getting a single one, while others get up to rune defender in under 2k.

 

I personally got my 3 rune defenders within 1.5k tokens (no RoW either).

Well, it's REALLY random. My bro got a rune defender from 1k tokens, and I used 900 tokens and I'n still at bronze. The average is around 2k tokens, though.
