October 27, 200619 yr Last summer I went on a small vacation (~2-3weeks) to Sweden to visit a friend (I'm Canadian). That's not the point, but it has some relevance, in that while I was there, my friend's father told me about this interesting law the Swedish have called Everyman's Right. Basically you can camp out anywhere public (and sometimes private), for one night, no questions asked, as long as you don't disturb anyone on their private property/destroy anything. I kind of forgot about it, I mean, it was a busy day. Then tonight I was walking home from school (~8:30pm), and tonight was incredible. Stars were out, it was crisp, cool, clean air, and I had a sudden urge to go on an adventure. And I know it sounds lame, and I have no idea where it came from, but it was, and still is there. Everyman's law came flying back into my mind. Reading up on it makes this all possible, assuming it happens in a country which upholds Everyman's right. There are five countries listed in the wikipedia article (Sweden, Scotland, Finland, Iceland, Norway), and my friends and I would love to backpack the countryside in Scotland. Sweden has an excellent information page on this. But, part of the reason I am posting this, is if anyone would aid me in finding a similar site on Scotland; a simple search found no results and I'd really like to know the extent that this right is upheld in Scotland before delving further into this endeavour.
October 27, 200619 yr Tell me about it! I went on a small boat ride in Lake Huron at night once, and all I wanted to do was lay beneath the stars. And I've snuck out of the house to look at the stars before also, PS: Do you speak any Swedish? Me doing staff.
October 27, 200619 yr Author PS: Do you speak any Swedish? Not anymore. I learnt enough to communicate with my friend's little brother (he was 5) while I was there, but I lost it immediately on return.
October 27, 200619 yr That's an awesome law! I live out in a rural area and the stars are amazing at night. If I wanted to, I guess I could camp out on my own property.
October 27, 200619 yr I wish governments could trust their tax payers enough so that every country could apply that. Unfortunately there are too many idiots who prefer tossing their garbage in open nature than to put it in a trashcan. Nice initiative though, I love that Scandinavian approach. And since all vibrations are theoretically sound, then it is not unreasonable to suggest that the universe is music and should be perceived as such.
October 27, 200619 yr Sounds nice, could of saved us hours apon hours searching for a blasted hotel in Chicago in that one trip... #-o "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
October 27, 200619 yr Nice initiative though, I love that Scandinavian approach. Their approach on everything, I should add. Scandinavians are supermen. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me

Yes, I hope to go to Scotland and take advantage of this right. Maybe this summer, maybe after I get my BSc. I just know that there's nothing I'd rather do than travel around for a few weeks and making camp each night at a different ruin.
