l33thunt3r
In the past few days, RS has really been laggy, and has been fine before. My computer specs (which stink, but is good enough for rs), and internet speed. Any way to reduce this lag? I scanned for viruses, and nothing came up. Cruiser
Have you tried servers in different locations? It may just be some bad routing between you and the server you're playing on. There's many other obvious reasons if you're virus/spyware free. :?
zonda
ahmagawt You use a firewall by any chance? Also do like cruiser suggested and scan for spyware..... and since we love HJT logs, post one so we can pretend to look at it and tell you everything 'looks fine besides a few unnessesaries' ... Kinslayer777
Stop being a pompous [wagon] Zonda. Perhaps he doesn't have one...and that's probably a result of not knowing what they are (which is reasonable) Definition of "firewall" (Definition brought to you by SearchSecurity.com) "A firewall is a set of related programs, located at a network gateway server , that protects the resources of a private network from users from other networks. (The term also implies the security policy that is ..." Basically, it's a entry-gaurd between your computer and the internet. Two [Edit make that three i can't count] reasonable ones are Sunbelt Keiro Personall Firewall, which is a free (although it might not be free anymore, i heard it's just a long trial now) and is a sturdy two part firewall There's Zonealarm Pro whic is an EXCELLENT firewall, but you must pay forit. There's Zonealarm free which is a reasonable better-then-windows firewall and is free :-) If Keiro is stll free though get it over this.I still highly recommend Zonealarm Free. On the otherhand i might be an arrogant jerk if it turns out you do know what a firewall is...

If asking questions is being an arse, then I guess no one will ever be able to fix anyone problems around here. Sorry for my attempt at getting to the root of the problem, since every one has such a problem with me commenting on T&C I might as well just leave - you know its not like I ever tried to helped or anything.... ... It's been fine, unblocked RS for it to WORK, and no viruses/adware/spyware, etc. I tried defragmenting the RS files with Contig and optimizing my TCP, but it didn't really help. So, any more tips? If it was blocking connections he wouldn't be on RS at all. Blocked connections don't cause lag... :? true, accept that there are many instances in which even when ports are unblocked, firewalls cause lag as they try to interperit every packet coming thru to your computer - I know plenty of cases where people would have their ports corrently opened / DMZ / UPnP and still had lag because of their firewall, and when the firewall was disabled, voila no lag. ...
