Fishing and Player Competition

Featured Replies

Since the other two F2P resource gathering skills (Mining and Woodcutting) are adversely affected by in-game competition (albeit in different ways), does the same hold true for fishing? It would seem logical that it would.

My assumption is that, at the very least, the effect would be similar to Woodcutting, in that you'll get far fewer fish per spot, and will have to constantly change spots, slowing your down, and making fishing more tedious.

On the other hand, if you were alone at a spot, you'd get all the fish from that particular spot.

It also feels like your "catching rate" is a lot slower if you're competing against other players, especially if they're higher level fishers.

Does anyone know for sure?

Although the assumptions are justified, the number of players fishing at a spot should NOT affect the rate of the fishing. This is because the rate which any fishing spot changes position is random (if not a set number). If what you say is true, then on a busy world you should be changing your position every minute, and you should not move for at least 10 minutes when you are alone. Neither of these are true (well at least as accurate as my approximations can be).

Why is this? Because fishing spots spawn infinite amount of fish, while things like trees and ore do not spawn infinite number of logs or ore. They must 'rest' for a while before they respawn. Fishing does not require this, the moving fishing spot is merely used to deter macro'ers.

edit : All of the above information is entirely my assumption, and could be wrong, completely.
