El Arma Del Dolor (The Weapon of Pain) --Short Story--

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prologue:

 

 

 

As Abel carried the water back to his village, he felt a great sense of accomplishment. Just last week the council of elders has accepted his pledge of manhood, he had finally become a man. As he finished his two-mile walk from the river, he placed the jug on the ground. He sat in a chair and used a rag to wipe his sweaty brow. It was the middle of the summer months. He lived in a desolate village two miles away from the Nile River, in the middle of the forest. It was a unseasonably cooll 105 degree day. Suddenly he felt light-headed. He doubted it was the weather, because in his trials he carried a 150-lb man 12 miles in the blistering 120 degree sun. He stood up to get some water but noticed something. Everyone seemed light-headed, some more than others. A deafening blast of sound erupted over the village. Abel collapsed, shuddering uncontrollably. He writhed in pain, a pain he never thought possible, for what seemed like an eternity. He wished he could just die, no life was worth the pain coursing through his body. He was paralyzed, like everyone around him. He noticed that the radio, their only means of contacting the outside world, was on fire. Finally he heard a truck pull up on the edge of town. He heard the deafening screech but somehow heard everything else clearly. A explosive boom, and blast of light, could be noticed every few seconds. Suddenly, two figures appeared, looking over him. His eyesight was so fogged he could barely see them. He heard one say, "The Weapon is a success, lets report back to base". All Abel saw was a flash of light, then nothing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 1

 

 

 

With a start, Robert awoke from a terrible dream. It was a reoccurring dream he had since he watched his wife get murdered during a pilgrimage to Israel. After that day he changed, he became an Atheist and joined the American Army. He was a spy who was stationed deep within South Korea, he had just finished a long journey into North Korea. Every day he wished he could meet his mother. She abandoned him after he was born, he had no father because he was conceived while his mother was a adult movie star. He got out of bed and quickly dressed. He left his hotel in search of a restaurant. All he could find was a small greasy spoon that look as if no one ever ate there. It was a nice place and sat and ordered himself a medium-rare steak. He sat there, and suddenly his cell phone rang, it rang for twenty seconds. He picked it up and his commander had only one sentence to day, "The Great Power Has Risen".

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 2

 

 

 

General Megan Houz was happy with herself. No only was she the highest ranking general in the resistance, but she was destined to be the next leader. It was her who figured out how to amplify the "brown note" to cause human pain. She had created the ultimate weapon. She was ready to lead their army through Syria and overtake them. As she left the barracks to board the helicopter that she would ride victoriously though Syria she felt proud of her second accomplishment. She had also figured out how to counter the weapon, all you would have to do is take a pill that contained so much iron and other minerals that it would counteract the noise. She had come up with the formula, she was the master behind everything.

Chapter 3

 

 

 

The world was up in arms. The resistance easily overtook Syria and enslaved all of its citizens. They were now known as the "New Nation of Syria, or the NNS for short. The United Nations could do nothing, they threatened to destroy anyone who opposed them, they had become Hitler on a larger scale. Robert was now back in China, he spent a week in training and now a week being briefed, this was his biggest assignment ever. He left for the outskirts of Syria with one goal, to get the anti drug and steal the weapon that treated to decapitate anyone in its way.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 4

 

 

 

Robert landed just inside Syria's border. He walked through the desert for 2 days, he was weak but he knew his mission was a matter of international importance. On the second day he found the NNS camp. It was small but heavily guarded. He jumped the fence and hid in a open box until nightfall. He crept through the camp and into the first aid tent. He searched everywhere and quickly found the anti drug. He took a guard hostage and found out that the weapon was in the generals quarters. He went through an open window and somehow manged to get into the weapon room. He grabbed the weapon, but then he gelt a gun barrel at his back.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 5

 

 

 

Megan stood there, knowing she could blow this sneaky spy away with one shot, but she didn't. She felt like there was a reason not to kill him. As he turned around she realized, it was her son. He had a scar on his forehead like the one she gave him when she tried to kill him when he was a baby. She had to let him go, and he left. Soon after she went on a rampage, killing everyone in her camp, then she turned the gun on herself and took her own life. The NNS was no more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 6

 

 

 

Robert was the Chinese hero. He came back unscathed and had complete his mission. He watched all the press conferences on his TV. But then he realized something, the army planned to use it for the same reason the NNS did, world domination. He totally couldn't believe it, him and his general were against that. He went straight to him and asked him why, his general said, "You are just a tool, we used you. We knew you could help us, that is why we murdered your wife. Robert snapped, he kicked the general in the stomach and took him down. He broke his neck and then destroyed the weapon. He set the army barracks ablaze and died in the inferno, world domination was to never be.
