I have seen them 475-625. A person has to be really desperate to buy for 1k each.

1k each is about the price that Mithril bars sell for. Some days it'll be easy to sell Steel bars at 600 each, and then the next day the best you'll find is about 550 each. It really all depends on who's in the area and what the average price is for the buyers at that time.
