Yes, that's where prayer comes in.

yes but in that screenshot he isnt using prayer and attacking the jad.

That was during the first two weeks the fight caves existed. There was an area where you could attack Jad, but he couldn't attack you. They've fixed it so that it doesn't work anymore.
