runiburger
RUnescape has been lagging for me so I went to investigate why. In the end I found out that my ping time is horribly slow. I use Telstra BigPond ADSL at 1.5Mbps. My ping time has always been 500ms+ to Microsoft.com and a lot of requests time out. My computer is in a home network of 5 desktops and 2 laptops. My computer is connected to the router via Gigabit ethernet through a 8-port Linksys 10/100/1000 switch. Is there any way of making my ping time faster? There are no other Broadband suppliers except Telstra where I live. I live near Melbourne, Australia I like bees
Parabola
The short answer is no. Latency is largely dictated by your geographical position and your ISP. The latency will be being stacked on after the packets have left your house and are wending their way to the destination.
weezcake
I'm surprised they can even provide service to you, especially with a 500ms+ ping time. Do you get 500 ping when you'r ethe only one on the network? ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. runiburger
Yeah, when I'm the only one on the network the ping times are around 450-550ms, When my sister and dad and everyone else is on, I wouldn't think of touching the Internet. Darn, I thought there would be a way out of it, ping times seem to get better at night time, maybe I'll just go on at night... Thanks anyway.
