An Alt. OS

Basically, I'd like to try something different to windows/mac os, more out of curiousity than anything. I guess I would dual boot it (or boot it directly from cd? :-k ). I'd just like to know what people would recommend to someone completely new to everything other than windows.

There's also MenuetOS but I doubt you'd want to try that. Ubuntu Linux is the most user friendly Linux I've used besides Mandrake 7.2(now Mandriva). My advice would be to try the Ubuntu Live CD and if you like it download or order an install CD.

:-k I still can't boot from particular cds it seems... Happened a while back but I just got on with my life, now its really annoying me...

Does anyone know why when I boot from cds it just comes up with DR DOS? Except one cd, containing Windows Nemesis 3 (not particularly useful...)

Sorry, I don't know, but I was wondering- Is unbuntu or windows (all settings turned down) more resource heavy? I'm thinking of an old computer of mine (95 non-SE) but it could apply to any version

Ubuntu and Windows XP are probably about equally 'heavy.' You should probably try a more minimalistic distribution.. (Slackware, DSL, Arch Linux (i686), etc)

Maybe change the boot order in your BIOS? Otherwise, no idea.. Retail computers often do weird things.
