VGA v. Component (not DVI my mistake)

Featured Replies

Im getting a 22in. wide-screen monitor soon (1680x1050) from gateway.

it has DVI, Component and a few other inputs...

i would like to hook my xbox 360 to it, and am wondering which one is going to give me the best quality

Thanks for the help

I didn't think the Xbox 360 had a DVI output. Component will be your best bet.

The refresh of the Xbox 360 I believe has an HDMI port, in which then you could use a DVI to HDMI cable.

.. say Component supports 1080p and below, doesnt say what VGA supports... im guessing 1080i and/or 720p

With some research, it seems that VGA and Component are very similar. Yes, Component can reach resolutions of 1080p, and VGA can reach resolutions of 1900 x 1080 or beyond, depending on your screen I suppose. People have had slightly sharper image quality, yet washed out colors with VGA, and deeper and richer colors with Component, but I'm at a loss to a clear cut statement for which is superior. Sorry I can't help you much, I don't know much about video.

There really is very very minimum of difference unless you are playing on a stupid sized HD tv screen. I cant tell the difference on my 32" TV. Component works just fine with HD, the 360 only goes up to 1080i atm anyway.
