pompey_spud
This evening, the norton antivirus thingy on my toolbar in the bottom right started flashing, with an exclamation mark next to it. I follow it, and it told me i was a risk from a trojan. However whenever i select remove, etc, it goes onto this 'updating virus definitions' pop up, and in the end it says 'outbreak alert cannot protect your computer from rapidly spreading threats at this time' it then tells me to run something called LiveUpdate which it claims is on my desktop, but i cant find it anywhere.... Any help on getting rid of this 'rapidly spreading threat?' Also, ive just run a full system check and it didnt come up with anything.
Darrel104
[uninstall Norton IMMEDIATLY and download AVG] <--- [Edit by Admin - this is horrible advice] <--- [Edit by Darrel104 - sorry about that :( wasn't thinking ]
Collective
Norton LiveUpdate can probably be found in your Start Menu if you can't find it on the desktop. ..and (as much as I dislike Norton) do not take Darrel104's advice seriously and uninstall it. If Norton fails you try browser-integrated virus scanners: Panda Activescan BitDefender TrendMicro Housecall Removal instructions can usually be found by searching Google for the virus' name. JoeDaStudd
Reboot your pc and put it into safe mode then run a full system scan. Rboot again, load up normally, download, ad-aware, ccleaner (not for the virus, but it will get rid of a lot of junk, so the virus scanner doesnt have to look there.) and spybot search and destroy. Update all the definitions then scan. If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, switch to firefox and download the following addons; Addblock plus Customise google (to get rid of any adverts which may lead to a site with a virus on) Noscript (Stops every script which may have a virus in it from activating) McAfee SiteAdvisor (Tells you the risk of virus' on any site) That should stop any virus' getting on your PC.
