Effectiveness of Pest Control?

Featured Replies

How much more effective is Pest Control than regular training? For example for me to get to 99 att, str, or def I have to fight around 22k fire giants. It also works out (since I kept my melee skills close), that if I kill 66k fire giants that would give me 99 in all three, as well as 99 hp.

Doing PC might get me to 99 in a single skill faster, but for the points I spend it will mean more training or PC in order to get 99 in all 4 (not that I'm truly thinking about it, just wondering about overall effectiveness).

If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.

Pest Control is the most effective way to train combat levels. The only downfall is the lack of hitpoints experience when using your points for a skill other than HP.

Seeing that your melee levels are almost the same as mine, you should be getting around 1.19k xp per point used on a melee skill (as that level goes up, the more points you receive). Add that to the xp per Pest round(~1.5k xp per round - dbaxe spec, whip , ultimate str prayer and str bonus).

1.5k*100 = 150k alone from 100 waves of Pest Control

1.19*100 = 119k from points(100 points) + an additional 10% xp.

Total: ~ 269k xp earned for spending 100 points(100 games).

Little advice: Focus on 1 skill at a time.

My head hurts... feel free to make corrections to my calculations.

On average how long are each of your games, that could also make a difference and how much money do you earn from 100 games?

Plus, that would still be around 4000 games for each skill to get to lvl 99, so that would be...16,000 for just the melee skills. Is that still more than killing fire giants. timewise?

Interesting, now I have another question/theory.

I tired a bit of PCm last night and this morning(had joined one of the groups a while back but never used PC). Gathered 100 points in probably around 4 hours (maybe a little less). But I noticed that most games I was averaging about 500-600 zeal points. Which is about right according to Twr phr33k's formula. So in roughly 2-3 minutes of each game I'm getting 1500 xp for my combat style I choose and (500 hp xp), regardless of whether we win or not, correct?

To get that at fire giants (for my example in my first post), you'd have to kill a giant every 30-45 seconds and have moved on to the next one almost instantly.

While this would slow you down on gathering points, if you had a team that destroyed 3 of the 4 portals, then spent the rest of the game time defending the knight, you could rack up quite a lot of zeal in 20 minutes.

So even a non-winning game of PC would still be better than regular training?

The money is 10 times your combat level. So for me at level 105, I get 1050 gold each game we win. But I'm looking more at time and efficiency. And on a good world games can go fairly fast (sometimes too fast to get enough zeal), like under a minute. average though is around 2-3 minutes. Plenty of time for zeal and not enough time to let the knight fall (if everyone's doing things right).

EDIT: correction on my typo. Thanks Bauke

That'll be 10 times your combat level.
