Deleting Posts/Threads

Recommended Posts

Why are some posts and threads deleted without notice instead of warned/edited or locked? When things are deleted, there is no basis from which the creator can appeal.

Note: I am not talking about posts that include pornography and other inappropriate content.

It's in the rules:

2.6 - Tip.It Staff

Moderators and Administrators of this site monitor your compliance with the rules of the site and dispense disciplinary action at their discretion. Any posts containing inappropriate content will either be edited or removed from the forums...

2.5 - Penalties

Users who break these rules may have their posts moved, edited, or deleted. Moderators are not required to note the reason for edit or removal of a post. Please direct your questions regarding the reason behind removal or edit of a thread to the board Moderator through a PM (private message). Habitual or severe violators may have their posting privileges removed, and their accounts and/or IPs suspended or may be permanently banned. Tip.It Moderators and Administrators will use their best judgment in deciding the most appropriate course of action. If you feel that any Moderator has made an inappropriate decision, please contact an Administrator.

Basically, mods need to keep the bad posts for evidence of offense, but don't want to leave it in Public, so it's moved away from public view.

As misterxman clearly stated, we only remove threads that break the rules. This includes, but is not limited to: spam, inappropriate content, censor bypasses, etc.

I've seen plenty of cases recently where plain text posts that did not break any rules were deleted. You're certainly welcome to impose censorship based on your personal preferences, but it still seems unfair. You could add a section the rules page telling us what we should think about and how we should speak, and which TV shows you enjoy and which you don't enjoy, etc. In that case, I would have no more reason to complain :)

I think you're somehow running on the premise that this forum operates under the principle of free speech. I believe you agree to rules whenever you use any sort of service or any facility. How do you figure that is any different here?

Thedepressedsquirrel is kinda right about what he said. One of my posts got deleted because it talked about fireworks. The mod said it was dangerous and we shouldn't talk abotu it.
