Peter
The upgrade from PS7 is $200-300 if you have it, otherwise, yeah it's $600. $1336 is a lot of money for PS, it must come with some others. Definately go with the $600 one though.

Led-Zeppelin
I think that they're the same things. Lot's of places like [bleep] Smiths, and Noel Leeming sell stuff cheaper to people with student ID's to make life easier. They even sell stuff like firewalls cheaper. So if you do go down to get it, DON'T forget your student ID like I always do ;). And I'm sure over 50% of people that have PS have downloaded it illegally... Guest idpup
The student version has all the same features as the main version. The contention is that when you have a student version you do not use it to make money ie pro business. I have owned both the student and full versions at various times and would not have been able to tell the difference aside from the info on the box type thing. I suggest you also look at ebay, they sell the student version there usually about 50 bucks cheaper in the box than you can buy at your local store or from an online college book store (careful though not to get ripped off by someone just selling a copy). Dyronamics
Or if youre looking for a basic but functional freeware program then use The Gimp, a freeware graphics program that I use :P .....(mainly because I can't afford photoshop) Superknight/Blademaster: Level 150; Hps: 132Theoretical damage per round: 234Highest recorded damage in one round:
venomai
If your having trouble affording CS (yes, its quite 'overpriced'), Photoshop 7 will work fine. Its a lot cheaper, though i don't know where you can find it (ebay?), and still has most of the tools. The main features it lacks are the customizable hotkeys and the sub-sets, as well as a few other things in CS but not 7.

cruiser1338
Adobe has recently released Photoshop Elements 3.0 for Mac and PC. It is described as a hobbyist version of CS, and it's only a hundred dollars. I'd go for that if you aren't looking for illegal copy, or just go to Limewire and download. Hope this helps! (I have the full version, so I can't comment on Elements, but I hear it is quite good and full of features).
Zdragonblader
at home i use elements 2.0 which i purchased for just 55$ usd. It isn't bad, although it doesn't have a lot of the text features and brush abilities. If you're budget is low though, i'd highly recommend it (so much cheaper!!!)
