February 15, 200719 yr Right, now go to http://www.newegg.com and see how much cheaper you can get the stuff for. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
February 15, 200719 yr If you need stuff for an operating system I recommend OpenSolaris: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/ As far as I know it's a free Unix-like operating system, so you can do whatever you want with it.
February 16, 200719 yr Out of the parts you listed, the Intel/ATi combo would probably be the best. Core2Duo E6600 will pretty much trump anything AMD can throw at them right now, except some of the really expensive chips, but even then the E6600 can do as good if not better. The X1950XT will also be far better than a 7600GT in most situations if not all. Now for a personal opinion. The case you picked is rather ugly and it is made by a brand I've never heard of. If I were you, I'd take a look at the P180. I own one and I love it to bits, nice sleek finish, quiet, comes with 3 120mm 3 speed fans. Pure awesome, abeit a bit more expensive than the one you picked. Another one which may be worth while is the Antec 900. Roughly the same price as the one you listed and its got a stupid amount of fans available to use along with a 20cm one. The Fatality mouse is a bit meh as is the keyboard. It would be a bit more expensive, but I feel that a Logitech G15 keyboard and a G5 mouse would be alot better for a gaming set up, even though you will pay a bit extra for them, what I've read about the two have been fairly positive but if you want something cheaper, this Logitech OEM set should be fine too Vista will do fine as well. A Unix based OS may cause you trouble unless you know your way around the commands and stuff, so unless you know what you're doing, best just to stick with something like Windows which will run pretty much all your programs out of the box. The keyboard, mouse and case are just what I would do if I were in your situation, but the Intel/ATi hardware is pretty damn good and will run most things nicely and is something I would consider myself. Hope that's an answer you were after and I didn't confuse you too much :P

Ram seems a overkill usless your planning on overclocking. MoBo is a good one, which has 6 USB ports which is enough, so you can take the USB hub out unless you are planning on using 10 USB sockets CPU is great, if you are planning on overclocking the the E6400 or even the E4300 would be cheaper and give a simular performance. GPU great for the money although you may what to wait for the cheaper 8xxx card to come out with their DX10 support as you want vista. HDD looks fine both WD and Seagate are great brands. Modem, if your using dial up then fair enough otherwise I wouldnt bother as you wont use it. PSU is fine, 650W is a nice amount, and allow enough room for upgrades. Soundcard, personally im fine with onboard, but if your spend ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã95 on a headset then I suppose its worth it. USB port, only if you plan on using then all otherwise it seems a waste. CD, just get another DVD drive they cost about the same. DVD, seems a bit pricey you can easily find a good one for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã20. Headphone switch, if you want/need it then fine. All in all its a good set up. February 16, 200719 yr Overclocking is changing the setting and times of parts to make then perform better. It you havent heard of it then dont even think about trying it as it can break said parts.
